Products that do what 1-click opt-out from websites selling your personal information does

We're huge privacy advocates; when we saw a post last week discussing how to opt-out from background checks and services selling your personal information, we knew we could add our support. The process of manually opting-out is arduous, time consuming, and serpentine. Some websites offer to do it for you (for up to $500 a year) but don't tell you what they're doing, where, and how. MELONCARD.com is our contribution. You upload your information once, and then click the opt-out button for the services of your choice. We send the emails, faxes, and forms where possible, and email you…

Back in 2010 I had an idea for a service that would allow people to easily create semi-permanent email aliases so that they could give an email address to people and websites without revealing their real email address. These aliases will continue to work indefinitely unless you choose to block them. My brother and I spent a few months building the initial version and launched the website in July 2010. For the first year we had about 50 signups per month, by 2013 this had increased to 1500 and it's currently around 3500 per month. Similarly, our revenue grew consistently but slowly - doubling…

I signed up for a paid service to get my phone, addresses, and vehicles off the public internet. It didn’t work. So I built remove-your-data, an open-source repo that tells your agent exactly what to do to remove your personal information online.

A friend(@wolever) and I spent the weekend hacking up a small web app which makes it easy for you to sell digital goods for Bitcoins. Once a customer has clicked the “buy” button, we take care of giving them a unique address, monitoring that address for transactions, then securely notifying your website once a minimum number of confirmations have been received. Oh, ya, and then we send you the Bitcoins :) The website is here: BitWillet: http://www.bitwillet.com and there is a demo on the front page. (full disclosure: BitWillet uses the Willet, http://dev.getwillet.com, platform, of which I…

Hi HN! I’m thrilled to introduce Eyed Out, a privacy-centric browser I developed to help users take control of their online experience. Eyed Out blocks trackers and ads, offers web agent spoofing, and includes handy features like password generation and temporary emails. I built this as a one-man project, and I’m interested into hearing your feedbacks. If you value your privacy while browsing, I invite you to check it out and let me know what you think!

Hi HN, When I was 16, three years ago, I got overcharged by LegalZoom for setting up an LLC. They made it seem more complicated than it is. You can actually do it yourself using your state's Secretary of State website. I made StateSmart to teach people the whole process. It covers: Understand the costs: Understanding all fees. Agent tips: Help with choosing a registered agent or becoming your own. Step-by-step instructions: Clear guidance on each document you need to file. Compliance: Tips on how to stay compliant with annual reports and filings. Everything online: All instructions and…
