Products that do what 2 weeks of coding, 3 months of OpenAI review, my ChatGPT App is live does
I run Tredict, an endurance sports training platform I've been building since 2020. OpenAI opened the ChatGPT App Directory to third-party submissions in December, and the official Tredict app is now live. The actual programming took me two weeks, but the entire process took three months. AMA on the submission process to OpenAI (timeline, review effort, what they ask for), how I solved user-authenticated content inside the iframe widgets, or why I had to remove certain tools to stay on the fitness side of OpenAI's fitness/health line.…

After being inspired by your responses to the Ask HN thread yesterday (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35299071), I decided to see if I could use ChatGPT to make a functioning app. I picked a random project idea out of my Notebook of Amazing Ideas, and spent just a couple of hours using GPT-4 to build it. I've never built an iOS app before, and even if I made something like this as a web app (my usual job), I would expect it to take at least a week. My process was basically 1) Ask ChatGPT to write some code 2) Copy and paste the code into the right files (this took a…

Hi HN! Two weeks ago at their Dev Days, OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT apps, interactive widgets that render inside ChatGPT using the Apps SDK and MCP. Building them using their template repository was surprisingly painful: every time you make a change on your React widget, you need to rerun the entire build pipeline to get fresh JS and CSS assets. The dev feedback loop was pretty terrible. That’s why I built a TypeScript starter that gets you up and running in under a minute. Clone, npm install, npm run dev, paste your ngrok URL into ChatGPT, and you're iterating on widgets with Hot Module Reload…

Just a personal experiment to build my first custom version of ChatGPT :) I'm spending too much time on this site, so it might ocasionally save me some scrolling and reading. Far from perfect and I'll continue to finetune it. I might even feed it with some classification data for each post, such as: Post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38167604 Categories: ["Health, Tech Gadgets, AI"] Comment Perspectives: - 3 Medical Innovation Appreciation - 1 Technical Analysis - 1 Limitations Acknowledgment Edit: Looks like OpenAI is having outages today and custom GPTs are only…

Hi HN - I’m excited to share a fun side project we built recently CodebaseChat.com is a tool for building a GPT chatbot for any GitHub repo in 30 seconds It can be helpful when onboarding to new codebases, when needing help understanding system design, asking for less technical explanations of functionality We’ve been heads down building Context.ai, the analytics platform for LLM products. When OpenAI released GPTs earlier this month, we built one to answer questions about our growing codebase. It worked so well that we decided to open source the utility for other dev teams How it works: -…

What I thought would take me weeks in development, took me months, but it's finally out. When ChatGPT API came out in March, my first idea of what to build with it was a spotlight-like app for my mac. The product was ready in a matter of days, but making it useful and sellable to people via some kind of distribution platform was another challenge. Coming from web development, learning how to ship a native app was a trip, but here it is, ready to share with the world. Try it out with the free trial, and I'd appreciate any kind of feedback.
