Products that do what A machine learning Rails app to predict your favorite color does

I'm nearing completion of the machine learning class offered online by Stanford (Prof. Andrew Ng is awesome). I wanted to try out some of the concepts I learned so I made up this little Rails app. I doubt if you can actually predict someone's favorite color based on a few preference, but we'll see how it looks after a few (thousand?) examples. I'm still working on it, but it's in a working state and I'm collecting all the data I want, so I can always rehash it later to tweak the algo. Any suggestions for a more interesting set of data to form predictions on? http://colorsvm.herokuapp.com/…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I built PaletteInspiration.com, a browsable archive of color palettes pulled from artworks by 3,000+ master painters (Monet, Vermeer, Raphael, Van Gogh). Why I built it: every color palette generator I tried converged on the same five muted pastels. Painters spent centuries figuring out color and we mostly ignore that body of work when picking colors for digital design. Please share your feedback on the Color Harmony Explorer - drag the wheel to any color and it shows which hues master painters historically paired with it (not only standard complementary, analogous, triadic, etc.) It is…

I'm a iOS and Mac developer and the thing that mostly bothered me when I first started learning Cocoa programming was the lack of full featured sample code. Now things have changed and more projects have been released, but I still want to do my part. I've already released Color Picker Pro for Mac: https://raw.github.com/oscardelben/Color-Picker-Pro This time I built a copy of the iPhone Calculator which (I hope) will be simple to follow for beginners: https://github.com/oscardelben/iPhoneCalculator I hope this will be useful to people who are learning Cocoa. Feedbacks are very appreciated.

Hi HN, I'm a solo developer learning to code, and I'd love to share my second real project: MapMyLearn, an AI-powered app that automatically generates personalized learning paths based on any topic you input. What it does: Takes a topic (e.g. "history of capitalism", "learn Rust", or "data storytelling") Uses AI to break it down into a structured course with modules and submodules Each submodule includes: - Detailed, pedagogical content (developed based on online sources to mitigate hallucinations) - A quiz of 10 questions - Recommended resources - An AI chatbot for Q&A - Optional audio…

As you can tell, it's heavily influenced by Mark Bao's threewords.me. The concept is simple, upload three pics and let your friends vote on them. In fact, I think I may have ripped the concept off a post about threewords.me. Anyways... Basically, I just wanted to build something stripped down to a core functionality and a little different from my usual projects. I've spent a lot of time polishing the flow and trying to make sharing an inherent part of the app. It's built on Ruby/Padrino/Sinatra, Postgres and uses S3 for image hosting. This is actually my first Ruby project coming from a pure…
