Creating data visualizations with AI nowadays often means chat, chat and more chats...and writing long prompts can be annoying while they are also not the most effective way to describe your visualization designs. Data Formulator blends UI interaction with natural language so that you can create visualizations with AI much more effectively! You can: * create rich visualizations beyond initial datasets, where AI helps transforming and visualizing data along the way * iterate your designs and dive deeper using data threads, a new way to manage your conversation with AI. Here is a demo video:…

Hi HN, I’ve been working on an OCR pipeline specifically optimized for machine learning dataset preparation. It’s designed to process complex academic materials — including math formulas, tables, figures, and multilingual text — and output clean, structured formats like JSON and Markdown. Some features: • Multi-stage OCR combining DocLayout-YOLO, Google Vision, MathPix, and Gemini Pro Vision • Extracts and understands diagrams, tables, LaTeX-style math, and multilingual text (Japanese/Korean/English) • Highly tuned for ML training pipelines, including dataset generation and…

This started out as a weekend hack with gpt-4-mini, using the very basic strategy of "just ask the ai to ocr the document". But this turned out to be better performing than our current implementation of Unstructured/Textract. At pretty much the same cost. I've tested almost every variant of document OCR over the past year, especially trying things like table / chart extraction. I've found the rules based extraction has always been lacking. Documents are meant to be a visual representation after all. With weird layouts, tables, charts, etc. Using a vision model just make sense! In…

Hey HN! I'm Zach from Adam (https://adam.new/). We’re building an AI co-pilot for mechanical CAD software. As part of our broader research, we built a browser-based Text-to-CAD app (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44182206) and are now open sourcing it. This is a React SPA with a Supabase backend. What it does: * Generates parametric 3D models from natural language descriptions, with support for both text prompts and image references * Outputs OpenSCAD code with automatically extracted parameters that surface as interactive sliders for instant dimension…

Hi everyone, we are excited to share with you our new release of Data Formulator. Starting from a dataset, you can communicate with AI agents with UI + natural language to explore data and create visualizations to discover new insights. Here's a demo video of the experience: https://github.com/microsoft/data-formulator/releases/tag/0..... This is a build-up from our release a year ago (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41907719). We spent a year exploring how to blend agent mode with interactions to allow you more easily "vibe" with your…

Hello everyone, This past Saturday, I decided to make purchase on Cursor after hearing how good it is with Composer function that allow to generate code on fly, especially on Claude Sonnet (not an affiliate of the products, just curious!). To make the purchase worthwhile, I challenged myself to build a Google Sheets extension in just 24 hours that allows users to connect with any Language Model (LLM)—whether it’s ChatGPT, Claude, Groq, or Gemini. The Idea The idea was simple: a formula like =Claude(prompt, model) that lets users integrate AI anywhere in their sheets. The most impressive…

Most of the document parsers fail on real world challenges like complex tables, handwritten documents, historical document scans, equations, multi-column layouts, complex reading order, etc. We built Unsiloed Parser to handle exactly these cases. Our latest parser v3.1 achieved #1 rank and scored 88.0 strict pass-rate on olmOCR-Bench. We ran the evaluation across 1,403 PDFs and 8,413 unit tests using the unmodified upstream Allen AI scorer (olmocr==0.4.27) and found Unsiloed beats 18 other OCR services, including GPT-5.5, Claude Opus 4.7, LlamaParse, Reducto, Azure Document Intelligence, AWS…
