Hi HN, I’m one of the maintainers of Bridge Anonymization. We built this because the existing solutions for translating sensitive user content are insufficient for many of our privacy-concious clients (Governments, Banks, Healthcare, etc.). We couldn't send PII to third-party APIs, but standard redaction destroyed the translation quality. If you scrub "John" to "[PERSON]", the translation engine loses gender context (often defaulting to masculine), which breaks grammatical agreement in languages like French or German. So we built a reversible, local-first pipeline for Node.js/Bun. Here…

Hey HN, I built libreoffice-rs: a pure-Rust, std-only library + CLI for reading, writing, converting, and rendering office documents — with *zero* LibreOffice, Java, or C dependencies. 100x faster... I know, I know. It supports DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT/ODS/ODP, PDF, Markdown, CSV, HTML, SVG, and more. The CLI is designed to feel familiar: ```bash cargo install libreoffice-pure # soffice-style usage libreoffice-pure --headless --convert-to pdf report.docx libreoffice-pure --headless --convert-to csv spreadsheet.xlsx # Markdown extraction libreoffice-pure docx-to-md report.docx…

I built the desktop app that detects and redacts personal data (or PII) locally without sending any text to server. It supports rule-based filtering and AI model-based redaction (eg openai privacy filter). It's open source and free. Please check out the repo and https://pii-gui.vercel.app/

Needed this in my own work, anonymizing PII/PHI and decided to build this because presidio didn't really cut it for our use-case. Try it and maybe let me know if you have any feedback :)

Hey everyone, I recently built a free and open-source tool that lets you manually redact PDFs and images right in your browser—no sign-ups, no watermarks. I also added an AI-powered auto-redaction feature to detect and remove sensitive info. Since this part uses external processing (OCR + AI), there are usage limits: you can auto-redact up to 3 single-page PDFs or images for free each day. Higher usage and multi-page support require a paid account. Right now, it works great for removing sensitive details like names, addresses, and emails, but I’d love to get your thoughts: • What redaction…
