24 alternatives to Asciitopia – a library of animated ASCII art patterns

I wanted an ASCII animation for one of my projects but couldn't find any collection or library for anything like that, so I cooked this up over a weekend with some ideas, inspiration and Claude. Feel free to add your own patterns!

I made a free animator. Think Adobe Illustrator but for animation▲738

See animations created by me using Trangram: https://www.trangram.com/showcase I started working on Trangram 7 years ago with a simple idea: a free browser-based vector editor that combines illustration and animation in one place. The goal is to make creating vector graphics and animations as simple as opening a browser. There's nothing to install, no account required, and projects are saved automatically in your browser, so nothing is uploaded to a server. I use Trangram every day for my own illustrations (and occasionally animations). One of the most rewarding parts of…

I reverse engineered top websites to build an animated UI library▲156

Looking at websites such as Clerk, I began thinking that design engineers might be some kind of wizards. I wanted to understand how they do it, so I started reverse-engineering their components out of curiosity. One thing led to another, and I ended up building a small library of reusable, animated components based on what I found. The library is built in React and Framer Motion. ASCII Drawing Board▲121

I've made an ASCII drawing board. You can set any brush, canvas size, export art as a text file. I want to keep it as manual/analog as possible, hence there is no tool for converting image to ASCII. Prompting LLMs to draw ASCII art turned out to be a difficult task . So instead I decided to ask it make a drawing board. Wihtout coding agent I wouldn't even try myself. Although it is an interesting task, it would drift me away. Basically it's just a drawing board with endless variations of textures and brushes: when you make large canvas and zoom out you don't see ASCII anymore, but…
