Introducing QuaranTab: Companion extension to quarantine tabs so you can safely use them offline with private data I find myself wanting to use online format parsers to quickly decode that production JWT or decode a base64 Authorization header but cannot trust these websites to not leak my information. I thought to myself if only I could cut-off network access to this site, use it offline, and then throw away all browsing data. So I created an extension just for that. It uses Firefox contextual identities API (Containers) to isolate browsing data and inter-tab communication. Once the site is…

Hello everyone! This is a browser extension that attempts to enhance Hacker News user experience, while your data is kept secure, and private (never leaves the browser). Browsers have evolved significantly since doing a v1 back in 2010, which was one of the contributing factors, for attempting a complete re-take few months ago. Personally, I was surprised how useful it turned out to be when browsing around HN. On the linked page you can find install link(s) from web-browser stores, and demo video/screenshots of the features[1] What do you think ? [1] including, browsing content with…

OP here. I built this because I recently caught myself almost pasting a block of logs containing AWS keys into Claude. The Problem: I need the reasoning capabilities of cloud models (GPT/Claude/Gemini), but I can't trust myself not to accidentally leak PII or secrets. The Solution: A Chrome extension that acts as a local middleware. It intercepts the prompt and runs a local BERT model (via a Python FastAPI backend) to scrub names, emails, and keys before the request leaves the browser. A few notes up front (to set expectations clearly): Everything runs 100% locally. Regex detection…

Hey HN, I built an automated system that tracks malicious Chrome/Edge extensions daily. The database updates automatically by monitoring chrome-stats for removed extensions and scanning security blogs. Currently tracking 1000+ known malicious extensions with extension IDs, names, and dates. I'm working on detection tools (GUI + CLI) to scan locally installed extensions against this database, but wanted to share the raw data first since maintained threat intelligence lists like this are hard to find. The automation runs 24/7 and pushes updates to GitHub. Free to use for research,…
