Products that do what Badger.com, a new domain registrar, needs beta testers (1 free domain) does
We've been hard at work creating a new domain registrar and now we want some feedback to help us figure out where to go from here! The first 100 users to signup using this URL will get 1 free domain Credit: https://www.badger.com/#register/hackernews --- Please please please give us feedback! --- P.S. We only support .com and .net at the moment but we'll be adding about a dozen more extensions in the next couple of weeks.

I often see question like "I'm with XXX registrar but want to change, which do you recommend?". People often offer helpful anecdotes so I thought I'd create a centralised place for them. Please check it out and contribute, if you have any experience with domain registrations!

Yesterday the top upvoted comment for "Why We Desperately Need a New (and Better) Google" http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2057772 was adding personal domain blacklists. I offered to build this if there was enough interest so here's a minimum viable product for Chrome (Firefox soon to follow): https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/jiicbcimbjppjbckmoknagndlhjbeohb. Your feedback is welcome!

Hello HN, About a month ago, I posted an "Ask HN" to see if there was any interest in having daily available .com domain name lists. The names would all be appropriate for startups, blogs and websites, nothing else. While the response wasn't overwhelming, it was quite positive and a few individuals got me motivated to go through with this. I decided to go with the free newsletter format so I could keep some form of exclusivity for the subscribers, giving them a better chance at getting a name they before somebody else gets to it. You can find the old discussion here:…

Did we mention it's a free 15 day trial including a full blown Google Apps for Business account and domain name of your choice? No credit card required and no jokes on the domain folks. Industry first and only! ::end salesman voice:: In all seriousness, we promote awesome causes such as Startup Weekend and hackathons. https://pop.co

I made a post a few days ago asking if any software companies/start ups needed technical video tutorial writers and I had a few very interested and serious respondents email me. I've been looking for something to do with this domain hence I give myself a Christmas present.

Every now and then I see these posts where people post the domains they purchased for XYZ side project that is clearly not happening. But considering how difficult it can be to find a good name, its always nice to see what people are willing to part with. Post your domains!

Hello HN! I've been working on http://underthesite.com for the last month and now think it is ready for some full strength HN feedback. What do you guys think? It crawls up to 10 pages of a given site while you wait, looking for community-provided CSS / XPath selectors and regular expressions. Additionally, I'd like to appeal to you to submit matchers for technologies that you care about. Technologies are easy to add, so add your favorite jQuery plugins, analytics tools, client-side node.js wrappers, what have you. I'm going to be running a large crawl in the next few days and want to make…

HN, I've been mostly lurking, semi-active on HN for over 4 years. For most of that time, I've been working on my startup, Learndot. I have always wanted to do a "Show HN" post, but I never thought it was ready. We've now finally launched web signup and using a freemium business model. I feel I can now post and offer something to the community (a new app to try out) and hopefully get good quality feedback. Here's the site: http://www.learndot.com Would appreciate any or all thoughts: From pricing/positioning, to design/performance. The app is written in Sproutcore and backed by an API written…

Hey there, HN people! I would like to share with you a little tool I've been working on this year. It's called Newsy https://www.newsy.co Problem I have more than 30 domains that I've bought over the years. I plan to (eventually) do something with them, but meanwhile, they are un-used and just sitting there. I want to use them somehow. I know there are a few impulsive domain buyers out there! :) My Solution I wanted to turn my un-used domains into something useful without me having to do too much work. So I created Newsy https://www.newsy.co It turns your un-used domains…

Hi HN! We've been having fun building a cool domain name generator and we'd like you to try it out. We're also releasing a bunch of available domain names ideas that our product generated in what we call "freebie sessions". The link above points to our first freebie session, where every few seconds a batch of available domain names will be released. What makes SneakyDomains different? - Shows only available domains (non-premium) - Real-time availability checking, no cached/stale data - Credit-based pricing (no subscriptions, no expiry) We're giving out 500 credits (1 credit /…

I tend to use AI to brainstorm domain names, but I kept wasting time pasting each idea into Namecheap to see if they were available. So I built DotComBuddy - it generates ideas (using DeepSeek V3 - switched from GPT-4o after realizing quality was just as good) and checks availability in real time via Name.com’s API. Built with Next.js and Vercel’s AI SDK, the app gives you a table of available domains with their price. 10 free searches to try it out, then $9/year (what I’d pay to never do this manually again). Sharing this for anyone else tired of switching tabs to check domains. Happy…

Someone is selling a list of available three, four, and five letter .io domains that are available for $20. This - https://gist.github.com/4111298 - generates a list of available .io domains of any length (user specified). And, its free. (I'm away from my computer, so it isn't tested, but I ran it in repl.it). Edit - this is the seller - http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4804627

I built it for myself because ngrok didn't let me add one more domain unless I paid $12 more. I probably should've looked for alternatives before building my own, but my grudge got in the way . Once I started, I wanted to make it better than the other options. Silly, I know. No one probably cares. I plan to open source it sometime next year because I’ve got other projects to finish first. It's free until I deplete my cloud credits, then it will switch to a tier-based model with a free option.

I've noticed that in the IndieHacker space, there are two distinct groups of people. Group 1: Have a million ideas, a thousand unused domains in their registrar account, and 15 projects that they're currently working on. Group 2: Have the drive to start something, but for the life of them can't find a good idea to start working on. I wanted to try and make a tool on my site that will bridge the gap between these two groups. The idea is this: People from group 1 can list a combination of a domain, logo and business plan on the site. You can list it for sale on any platform such as Gumroad,…

Hi! Long time reader, first time submitter. I've finallllyy got my first webapp online. It's been a long time coming, I started it over a year ago and just been an hour here, a couple of hours here, and a period of a couple of months of nothing. I first wrote it as a way to learn some python it sort of grew to fill a need I had. It's at a point now where I'd LOVE some feedback as I am going round in circules. Please, it's free, just hit the home page, plugin in a name/email and url you want to links checked on. If you use the name 'DeleteMe' I will remove the account after a week, so feel…
