I built an app to block Shorts and Reelsâ–²690

I wanted to find a way to use Instagram without ending up scrolling for two hours every time I open the app to see a friend's story. Most screen time apps I found focus on blocking the app itself instead of the addictive feed, so I created this app to allow me to keep using the "healthy" and "social" features and block the infinite scrolling (Reels) After implementing the block on Instagram Reels, I got addicted to YouTube Shorts and Reddit feed. So, I extended the app to cover these as well. To avoid replacing the scrolling for regular feeds, I also added a feature that shows a pop-up when…

    Scroll Buddyâ–²107

Hi! Instead of a boring scrollbar I made a scuba dude that swims down the page when you scroll. The idea came from nostalgia; remember SkiFree game on Windows? I wanted a skier skiing down my site. Building the skier mechanics in pure javascript turned out to be difficult so I started with a runner, added a santa hat, and recently built scuba buddy. You can try it directly as soon as you start to scroll down the page, and see the other animations with the "Change Animation" button. Technical details: entirely javascript, takes scroll depth value (window.scrollY) and inputs that into…

my new app Timebar has a clever UI (I think)â–²81

Howdy, gang; After almost two weeks of sitting in Apple's approval queue, my new app Timebar is finally available. I think it has a pretty innovative UI feature, so I wanted to float it by Hacker News. It's a timer app that turns your Mac's menu bar into a sort of virtual hourglass. Your menu bar starts out tinted blue (or whatever colour you pick) and it slowly drains from right-to-left until your time is up. It works very well for situations where you want to keep track of time, but don't need to be super precise. The menu bar is easy to glance up at, and it doesn't take long to happen…
