24 alternatives to Barfi – Python flow based programming with GUI

What? Another flow based programming library for Python? Yes. All the FBP libraries out there for Python need to be run as a self contained application. They are not components that could be integrated into your existing data workflows. Barfi, on the other hand can be integrated. At the moment it has a Streamlit component that you can use in your Streamlit apps. Currently, I am working on a Jupyter notebook widget.

Barfi is a flow-based programming library for Python that integrates into existing data workflows rather than running as a standalone application. Unlike other FBP libraries, it functions as a component that can be… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Hey HN! I built a local Python prototyping tool that is finally the Python development environment I've always wanted. It has a Jupyter notebook for data crunching, a database of your choice (Python or MongoDB), and a Streamlit app for building a frontend visualization. You can edit the Streamlit backend via an embedded VSCode editor, or locally on your own IDE. The best part for me is that the database connectors within Jupyter and Streamlit are configured out-of-the-box, so you don't need to spend time thinking about how to tie all that together - you can just pick the database you want to…

Hey, guys. I've just made a plugin which turns your pandas dataframe into a tableau-style component. It allows you to explore the dataframe with easy drag-and-drop UI. You can use PyGWalker in Jupyter, Google Colab, or even Kaggle Notebook to easily explore your data and generate interactive visualizations. PyGWalker (pronounced like "Pig Walker", just for fun) is named as an abbreviation of "Python binding of Graphic Walker". Here are some links to check it out: The Github Repo: https://github.com/Kanaries/pygwalker Use PyGWalker in Kaggle:…

Hi HN! Last year, we shared marimo [1], an open-source reactive notebook for Python with support for execution through WebAssembly [2]. We wanted to share something new: you can now run marimo and Jupyter notebooks directly from GitHub in a Wasm-powered, codespace-like environment. What makes this powerful is that we mount the GitHub repository's contents as a filesystem in the notebook, making it really easy to share notebooks with data. All you need to do is prepend 'marimo.app' to any Python notebook on GitHub. Some examples: - Jupyter Notebook:…

It can generate clean code python for the UI you build. You can check out the source code here: https://github.com/PaulleDemon/PyUIBuilder Feel free to check it out. Thanks!

Hey HN, I’m Jimmy, co-founder of Dropbase (https://www.dropbase.io). We are an internal tools builder for Python developers. All you have to do is import any Python scripts/libraries, declare UI components, and layer app permissions so you can share them with others. We’re a middle ground between Airplane and Retool—simpler UI creation than Airplane, more code-centered than Retool. UI building is declarative and you can bind Python scripts/functions to UI components. You can write Python scripts/functions using our App Studio with support from a Python Language…

Hi all! A little background: I've been working on natto.dev, a spatial environment for JavaScript. I'm really excited about new interfaces for code (leveraging metaphors we're good at, spatial reasoning, making state visible, design tools, etc). With all the buzz around PyScript, I discovered Pyodide and got it working inside natto. This Python version is a stripped down version of https://natto.dev (eg interactive outputs, multiplayer) so please check that out if this interests you. I'm excited to share this spatial environment for Python. Imagine Jupyter cells arranged on a 2D…

Every data pipeline job I had to tackle required quite a few components to set up: - One tool to ingest data - Another one to transform it - If you wanted to run Python, set up an orchestrator - If you need to check the data, a data quality tool Let alone this being hard to set up and taking time, it is also pretty high-maintenance. I had to do a lot of infra work, and while this being billable hours for me I didn’t enjoy the work at all. For some parts of it, there were nice solutions like dbt, but in the end for an end-to-end workflow, it didn’t work. That’s why I decided to build an…

Hello, HN community! This is the first time I’m doing a Show HN, and I'm excited to introduce the library I've been working and believing in for the last year, Taipy! This Python library was created to make building complete applications on data science and ML projects easier and so more accessible to end-users. Basically, it allows any data scientist to build a production-ready application and stop being stuck at the pilot stage. It’s all Python making having to do the job of creating and deploying the app a one to two person job instead of going for specialized developers that are…

I started building a couple of years ago because I found no easy existing solution to build Slack bots that can be composed from/organized into plugins. Existing libraries like Bolt make it pretty easy to develop Slack bots, but hard to organize and scale the code base of your bot. I was also missing some crucial features such as scheduling actions for your bot. So I wrote my own framework! I recently rewrote the complete framework to make use of asyncio and the newest Slack SDK Let me know what you think!

I love Streamlit but have run into many situation where taking it from PoC to MVP state is insurmountable. With all the recent HN hype around htmx and sematic html / classless css I decided to build a Streamlit alternative using these on top of FastAPI. This has a couple advantages: 1) easier to extend when you move past PoC since the FastAPI app is exposed (allowing adding more routes) and hstream acts more like a typical web stack 2) with htmx and html (plus MVP.css) doing the heavy lifting the package is alot less complex and easier to reason about - and hopefully more performant…
