Products that do what BigHoops – Topgolf for Basketball [video] does
Hello, Hacker News community! We're the founding team of BigHoops : brothers Paul (CEO) and Dan Brown (CTO) and Brantley Beaird (Investor & Advisor). Dan and Paul have always been passionate about sports, particularly basketball. Over time, we noticed that while many people love watching Basketball, not all have access to or can easily engage in the sport with friends casually. That's why we created Bighoops - an experience that reimagines basketball for everyone, much like what Topgolf did for golf. Bighoops uses AI to adjust shots based on skill-level and performance and offers a variety…

Hey everyone, OP here. Wanted to share a bit more about Hooper — I started building it with a good friend of mine six months ago. We play a lot of pickup together and were arguing about who has a better jump shot and ended up hacking together an app to settle it The way Hooper works is you can record yourself using the app and ideally a tripod (optional). The app will track everyone, whether its a solo practice, a 3v3, or a 5v5. We think there’s a lot of stuff out there for basketball drills but what we really wanted Hooper to be for is actual game play. That means, it can do things like…

In a company hackathon this weekend, I thought it would be fun to build a basketball play designer. Essentially, you enter some information about the type of play you want, and it generates a play following these requirements. I was imagining it might be useful for stuff like: 1. Designing personalized plays for first-time coaches: "Give me a play that gets my shooting guard an open three-pointer. My shooting guard shoots the best from the right wing, and my point guard has a weak left hand. My center sets great screens, so have my center set an off-ball screen for my shooting guard." 2.…

Introducing DeepShot: An NBA Game Prediction Model Hey devs, sports fans, and data nerds! After weeks of work, I'm excited to share DeepShot – an advanced NBA game predictor powered by historical data from Basketball Reference, machine learning, and a clean NiceGUI-powered web interface. What it does: DeepShot uses team-level rolling averages (including Exponentially Weighted Moving Averages) and an Elo rating system to accurately predict NBA game outcomes. All predictions are visualized in real time through a sleek, responsive UI. Key Features: Data-Driven Predictions using past performance…

hey y'all -- can you please tell us if our job search tool sucks? :D we built it using an investor platform called Harmonic.ai to gather startup data, then contextualize it so that job seekers could find out about the most exciting startups hiring first (like if they just raised, growing headcount fast, have an ex-unicorn founder, etc). pretty sure we're the first platform doing anything like this. anyway, let me know what you think. really excited to launch this thing soon! getting feedback from the hn community first is really fun :)

I was just browsing through the "Who got hired?" thread (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36160198) and it caused me to think about all of the things that happened in my real life due to HN. In 2012 I was hired from a post in the "Who's Hiring" thread that turned out to be a complete life and career transformation. It was at a very famous company that everyone here has heard of and used. They were pre-IPO and I got to be a "part" of that IPO. It exposed me to people smarter than I had ever met, and allowed me to learn from them. It allowed me a path into "big tech" that I…

Hello HN, Lucas here. I’ve been working with BigQuery for ~5 years, mostly in large (petabyte-scale) environments. Over time we ended up spending a lot of money and engineering effort just trying to understand where costs were coming from, why and how to optimize them. At some point we decided to stop, leverage all our past experience and spend a full cycle building tooling focused on cost visibility and optimization. The main goal was to regain ownership of cost data and make it possible to understand our cost structure in under a minute, while aligning the views of engineering and FinOps…

Hi HN, I’m Sean, the founder of Ascend.io (https://www.ascend.io). I’m really excited to post here and announce the launch of Ascend.io, a radical new way of designing, scaling, and automating data pipelines. Ascend is the result of nearly 4 years of development effort for a team that is now 30-strong, and I would love for you to give it a test drive and let me what you think. I’ve felt this pain since I wrote my first MapReduce in 2004 (using Sawzall @ Google), and in the 15 years since, things have not improved at the pace of other parts of the technology ecosystem. When I went…
