Hey guys, I built a route planner that is mostly focused on bike touring and using existing bike infrastructure. For each request you're shown what bike tracks/trails your route uses and can further explore them by showing them on map or going to the official trail route. The main idea for the app is to have a friendly and easy to use planner that would make heavy use of official bike trails data (mainly from OpenStreetMap) and make it easy to plan a longer trip using the best possible bike routes out there. Ambulate was created because planning hiking trips using spreadsheets and various map solutions got chaotic. I wanted an app to manage and map multi day trip itineraries in the outdoors/backcountry. Long time reader, first time self-promoter. I'm a bicycle mechanic that figured I could make the process of bicycle wheelbuilding faster, more accurate and more satisfying. I do it by sampling digital indicators, rendering the data in useful ways, and injecting domain-specific insights. The UI interaction happens by foot pedal so my paradigm retains the traditional way of working with your hands.

Hello HN, I made the web app that helps plan your routes/road trips. It has so many options that I don’t know how to explain in simple words :), so I’ll try like this. What is cool about it is that your routes are shareable and hackable.
