Hi Hacker news ! I’m Julien and I built an alternative CLI for Git : gut. Even if I haven’t been coding for a long time (I’m in the first year studying computer science), I’ve always found git to be frustrating. The command naming is inconsistent and git lets you easily shoot yourself in the foot. I made gut, another git porcelain, to solve these issues. It provides a consistent naming of command. To do so, syntax is based on subcommands. For example, to delete a branch, run gut branch rm rather than git branch -d, same to delete a remote (gut remote rm) and so on. Gut also prevents you from…

0github.com is a pull request viewer that color-codes every diff line/token by how much human attention it probably needs. Unlike PR-review bots, we try to flag not just by "is it a bug?" but by "is it worth a second look?" (examples: hard-coded secret, weird crypto mode, gnarly logic, ugly code). To try it, replace github.com with 0github.com in any pull-request URL. Under the hood, we split the PR into individual files, and for each file, we ask an LLM to annotate each line with a data structure that we parse into a colored heatmap. Examples:…

GitDiagram is an open-source micro dev-tool that I made this past week Given any public GitHub repository it generates diagrams in Mermaid.js with Claude 3.5 Sonnet I extract information from the file tree and README for details and interactivity (you can click components to be taken to relevant files and directories) Also, you can replace "hub" with "diagram" in any repository URL to access its diagram I created this because I wanted to contribute to open-source projects but quickly realized their codebases are too massive for me to dig through manually, so this helps me get started I do…

I built Chonkie because I was tired of rewriting chunking code for RAG applications. Existing libraries were either too bloated (80MB+) or too basic, with no middle ground. Core features: - 21MB default install vs 80-171MB alternatives - 33x faster token chunking than popular alternatives - Supports multiple chunking strategies: token, word, sentence, and semantic - Works with all major tokenizers (transformers, tokenizers, tiktoken) - Zero external dependencies for basic functionality Technical optimizations: - Uses tiktoken with multi-threading for faster tokenization - Implements…

I've built a place where it's encouraged to ask how to start a new software project. Currently it's free but will soon start paying the most helpful devs that answer questions. https://buildfaast.com/
