It's been a long slow hog and I almost gave up a few times (more than a few) but when covid hit this year it gave me some time to really focus on my product. There were stupid user journey things that I knew needed fixed. There were some features I knew needed added. And I knew the pricing was wrong. I spent some hardcore time working on these things back in March / April and since then my MRR has continued to grow. My product is SongBox (https://songbox.rocks) - it's an alternative to things like bandcamp and soundcloud for creators who need to share audio files privately.…

Hey HN, I built Jukebox because I got frustrated with group music apps and Spotify’s limitations (not everyone has Spotify, and collaborative playlists are still too easily dominated by one person). Jukebox is a web app that lets you create a group queue—anyone can join via link, add YouTube songs, and the system automatically rotates songs so everyone gets a fair turn (no more playlist hogs). Web-based, no accounts, no installs. Drop in a YouTube link or search and add music instantly. Songs rotate in round-robin order (so even if one person adds ten songs, nobody else is skipped). Entirely…

I've been working on this alternative for Plex for almost 3 years now. It's main selling point is that it correctly handles multiple versions of albums and songs. As of today, it only has a web client. It tries to be as flexible as possible, but still requires a bit of configuration (including regexes, but if metadata is embedded into the files, it can be skipped). I just released v3.0, making videos first-class data, and scanning + metadata matching faster.

Hi Hacker News, This is definitely out of my comfort zone. I just wanted to show you guys because I'm super proud of it. It's a 100% faithful recreation based off of the schematics, patents, and ROMs that were found online. So please watch the video and tell me what you think https://youtu.be/auOlZXI1VxA The reason why I think this is relevant is because I've been a programmer for 25 years and AI scares the shit out of me. I'm not a programmer anymore. I'm something else now. I don't know what it is but it's multi-disciplinary, and it doesn't involve writing code myself--for…

I'm happy to announce the release of Polaris 0.15.0 . Polaris is a self-hosted music streaming server, to enjoy your music collection from any computer or mobile device. It is free and open-source software, without any kind of premium version. This release is the biggest one since Polaris' humble beginnings 9 years ago. It's technically not a rewrite but there is not much code that was left untouched. The highlights are: - New visual design for the web client (screenshots[1]) - Ability to browse the music collection by artist/album/genre, not only by file - Support for multi-value…

Hey everyone, I've made a project to make your own music archive streamable and turn it into a complete music platform. The reason I've been working on this project for a while was to stream the CD's I've had at home without any cost and also make a nice looking system to manage and listen to these albums. You can host your own server and use the web player to connect. Also, it is possible to create users and give them access to your own server. Some features of the current release are group sessions, endless listening with radio, fuzzy searches, showing lyrics and specialized context menus.…
