Dear HN community! Looking forward to hearing your feedback on ACE (assured confidential execution), technology that implements VM-based trusted execution environment (TEE) for embedded RISC-V systems with focus on a formally verified and auditable firmware. We target high-assurance systems that can benefit from compartmentalization and hardware-backed isolation. The key ingredient called security monitor (firmware) is implemented in Rust. The formal specification is defined as annotations directly in code and gets translated to Coq using RefinedRust automation. ACE design is now part of the…

Hi! I got tired of setting up tools I can't explain to a team in a few words like sops or git-crypt, just to store few files with environment variables or secrets, so I built lockenv as a simple alternative. It's basically a password-protected vault file you commit to git. No gpg keys, no cloud, just lockenv init, set a password, and lock/unlock the secrets. This tool integrates with OS keyring, so you're not typing passwords constantly. Should work on Mac/Linux/Windows, but I tested it only on linux so far. I am not trying to replace any mature / robust solution, just…

This is a simple single-file python program that can find basic XSS (cross-site scripting) vulnerabilities in a target url. Most XSS discovery tools use a payload refelection strategy in which payloads are injected in url parameters and the GET response is inspected for places where the payload content is reflected. This is a very low precision XSS detection strategy because most reflection does not support execution. This program uses a different approach, and instead opens the target url in a browser, tests alert(...) payloads directly in the browser context, and listens for an alert being…

Hi HN! I’m Emile, co-founder of Caido [0]. Today, we are launching the public beta of Caido, a lightweight web security auditing toolkit. While our tool is mostly geared toward pentesters and bug bounty hunters, we thought some of you might find it useful. The web security auditing toolkit space hasn't seen much innovation in recent years, with current tools feeling outdated and lacking in performance and user experience. As the number of security professionals continues to increase, there is a growing need for a user-friendly alternative. This is what motivated us to create Caido. At its…

just wanted to share ward, a tool i hacked together to encrypt and manage sensitive files in a vault folder. it's written in bash and meant to be cloned and then stored using git or version control. you don't have to store it that way, it's just why i created it. what ward does: encrypts the files in ./vault/ into a single .gpg file, checks to see if your files have been tampered with, generates totp codes if you need them to recover critical accounts. how to use it: clone the repo, toss your files into the vault directory, and run yarn encrypt. now commit your new [private]…

My name is Nir! I am one of the three co-founders of arnica.io. I’ve worn many hats in cyber security over the years – sys admin, pen-tester, security architect, and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). What really gets me excited about my work is making security easy and effective for developers and ops teams! In my last role, at one of the top 3 FinTechs, following the attack against Solarwinds, the CEO asked me what we are doing to secure our software supply chain. I met with 15+ vendors, did a few POCs, but unfortunately each solution either increased operational cost or was too…
