Author here. I'm a software engineer who started writing hard science fiction on the side. I built this tool because I wanted to write in plain Markdown and go straight to Amazon KDP without touching Word, InDesign, or Vellum. The workflow: I write stories in .md files, one heading per chapter, --- for scene breaks. When I'm ready to publish, I run one command and get a paperback PDF, hardcover PDF, and Kindle EPUB with correct margins, typography, and scene breaks. The tool wraps Pandoc and XeLaTeX with a custom LaTeX template and a Lua filter that handles the scene break conversion.…

While working as a Unix Systems Administrator (I still do, just with much more limited hours), I use a horrible piece of software called Netdoc (by Brady) for network documentation. It always confused me how something so expensive could be so horrible, so I set out to make something better. After a bit of development and research, I realized inventory software in generally was pretty horrible, so I changed tracks a bit so my software could be useful to everyone from IT professionals to those wanting to keep track of their personal book collections (And be at a price book collectors can…

I built a web-based document comparison tool where all file parsing and diffing happens entirely in the browser. The idea came from watching non-technical coworkers struggle to compare document versions — manually reading two files side by side or fighting with Word's Track Changes. Technical details: PDF parsing via pdf.js, DOCX via mammoth.js — all client-side Diff engine: Google's diff-match-patch Line, word, and character-level comparison Next.js 15 + TypeScript, deployed on Vercel No files ever leave the browser. No signup required. Site: https://diffnote.net Product Hunt:…

Hi HN, I built a collection of 40+ PDF tools using Kimi k2.5 (with about $50 worth of credits) and a lot of “vibe coding”. The site: https://pdfuck.com (almost forgot I owned this domain ) What it does: 40+ PDF-related tools Completely free No downloads, everything runs in the browser All processing is done locally in your browser for better privacy It’s deployed on Cloudflare, so the running cost is basically close to zero. This started as a small experiment and slowly grew into a fairly complete PDF toolbox. I’d really appreciate feedback on performance, UX, and what tools you…

Hi all, I wanted a robust way to keep track of my receipts without needing to keep them in a box and so i found paperless - but the existing paperless ai projects didn't really convert my receipts to usable data. so I created a fork of nutlope's receipthero (actually it's a complete rewrite, the only thing that remains over is the system prompt) The goal of this project is to be a one stop shop for automatically detecting tagged docs and converting them to json using schema definitions - that includes invoices, .... i can't think of any others right now, maybe you can? If you do please make…

22+ years as a Software engineer/programmer. For a reason that only life can explain, in the last 8 years i went from Adobe Flash Specialist to owning a small solar installation business and a small electric and plumbing materials. o.O We had a problem every time that we had to resupply or shop for new goods. In Brazil, things are manual in B2B and restricted to PDF Quotations/Proforma negotiations. Nobody has ecommerce, only the middlemen that resell what they buy from the factory with their margins on top. For better margins, direct from the factory is the way to go. Long story…
