Hey HN, Artem and Maksym from NewsCatcher here. Some of you know us as we started six years ago as two freshly graduated economics students who decided to build the best news API product. We started NewsCatcher thinking the market for news APIs was so big that we could build a self-serve platform and get millions of $29 users. Obviously, it was a wrong assumption. I wrote this small client to read hackernews from my favorite editor. It's currently using an external HTTP API [0] but I'm working on my own proxy [1]. I'd love to actually scrape and cache all the info I need using lisp. However, my time constraints are keeping me away of that goal. I got fed up with the news reader apps out there so I decided to make my own. Its a simple concept where it tracks all your favorite news sources for new posts and the social shares it received. Then it ranks it HN/Reddit style using social shares as upvotes. It's not meant to be alternative to HN, just a focused way to track your favorite sources.
