Products that do what Chat with people who share the same Internet connection (= IP address) does
I built a simple, ephemeral chat service that connects you only with users who share the exact same public IP address as you. It's essentially a temporary, isolated chat room defined by your NAT gateway. It's not super useful nowadays, but let's see where this takes us. :)

Try it out on your WiFi: https://tapchat.com I’ve always been shocked at the fact that it’s easier to chat with someone on the other side of the world than with someone who is on the exact same WiFi as you. I think that is a shame because WiFi networks are essentially a bunch of existing micro-communities which your phone already automatically connects to. Think about how many other people have used or will use the same WiFi as you at home, school, work, or in public; and so far it has been practically impossible to chat or share pictures with them. Hey all I'm Asim. I'm an engineer who's been hacking on an open source project called Micro for the past eight years (https://micro.dev). In that time I've done a lot of things, all Dev related but ultimately most of my career was spent working on platforms for consumer products. After many attempts I've decided the path forward is to focus on building something that solves my own problem. Micro Chat is a solution to some of the social media problems I've been having. What I've been looking for most of my life is a community. A place to belong. I scoured the internet for that with…

Phispr is an ephemeral chat application designed for anonymous, temporary conversations that vanish without a trace. Built with Go, it offers both web and terminal user interfaces. A weekend project exploded into a two weeks project, and with a funny origin. https://github.com/bnkamalesh/phispr/blob/main/docs/genesis....

Hi HN, I built a location-based chatroom with Discord-like servers. This started as a portfolio project to learn WebSockets but has spiraled into something else entirely. There are two features right now: Drop - Single chatrooms that can only be seen within a specified radius and only last for a time less than 48 hours chosen by the user. Hubs - Geofenced servers modeled after Discord. These are not time restricted. They can be created by anyone and the creator becomes the admin able to add channels and set rules. When a user enters the location’s area, they can join the hub and continue…
