Products that do what Classify-filename – Sort filenames into buckets by rules does
Small zero-dependency npm package I just published. Takes a list of filenames and a list of rules, gives back named buckets - first match wins, natural sort within each bucket, optional explain map for debugging. Wrote it because I couldn't find one on npm. Feedbacks welcome.

I made an early version of a sorted collection library for Zig. Sorted collections are data structures that maintain the data in sorted order. Examples of these data structures are `java.util.TreeMap` in Java and `std::map` in C++. These data structures are mainly used for fast lookups (point search) and fast range searches. The library is available on GitHub: https://github.com/CogitatorTech/ordered

Hi everyone, Just wanted to share a use case where local LLMs are genuinely helpful for daily workflows: file organization. I've been working on a C++ desktop app called AI File Sorter – it uses local LLMs via `llama.cpp` to help organize messy folders like `Downloads` or `Desktop`. Not sort files into folders solely based on extension or filename patterns, but based on what each file actually is supposed to do or does. Basically: what would normally take me a great deal of time for dragging and sorting can now be done in a few. It's cross-platform (Windows/macOS/Linux), and fully…

Hii HN! We've built a Chrome extension called Cantrips.ai that auto generates meaningful filenames for pdf, txt, and docs downloads. It has tailored formats for major file types like papers, books, financial reports, etc. For example, a paper is always formatted as download date - title - first author's last name - area, so the filename would be 20250208 - Attention Is All You Need - Vaswani - LLM instead of 1706.03762 from arXiv. We are also developing a feature where users can add or adjust their file naming preferences. For example, if you like underscores and download meeting memos a…

Every product that allows usernames eventually ships the same broken solution. Someone adds a blacklist. Then a regex. Then another regex copied from StackOverflow. It works just long enough to ship, and then `admin`, `support`, city names, brand impersonation, and obvious slurs start leaking through anyway. Everyone knows it’s fragile, but it gets ignored because "it’s just usernames". I’ve had to rebuild this logic across multiple products, and I got tired of pretending it’s a solved problem. So I built *username.dev*, an API that answers a more useful question than "is this taken?" — it…
