Here's something I realized: the most AI-native knowledge base isn't a SaaS product with an API. It's a folder of markdown files on your disk. Obsidian stores everything as plain .md files. That means Claude Code (or any AI tool) can grep, read, write, and traverse your entire knowledge base with zero setup. No API keys. No OAuth. No middleware. Just local file I/O. The only missing piece was sync. I wanted my vault on iPhone (iCloud), on Mac (local), and on GitHub (backup + version history) — without paying $4/mo for Obsidian Sync. cc-md is ~400 lines of bash. iCloud handles Apple…

Hello HN, we're Andrew and Stephen from Keyboard (https://www.keyboard.dev/). After building AI tools for the past year, we recently made a YouTube video on building MCP servers and realized MCP is a total game-changer. It essentially lets AI do anything by connecting to your apps. But the deeper we dove, the clearer it became that security and privacy were complete afterthoughts. Coming from backgrounds at Okta and Stripe, this made us pretty uncomfortable. We kept seeing the same pattern: every app needs its own MCP server, each storing sensitive tokens, with minimal…

Hello HN! I built a pre-commit code scanner that checks your staged changes for security vulnerabilities every time you run 'git commit'. I am an inexperienced programmer and this is my first personal project. Any feedback, positive or negative, big or small, relevant or not, would be greatly helpful and appreciated! The tool requires Gitleaks and Python to run, you will also need to use your own AI API key, which I understand is a big setup friction. You can check out my demo video instead if that is more convenient: https://youtu.be/ZYe5vWFRTus?si=9Fv8DhTHktwDK4mV Thank you…

Hello HN, I’m excited to share something we’ve been working on: Cloud Troubleshooting Labs. This tool provides on-demand environments for engineers to practice hands-on troubleshooting with AWS, GCP, Azure, and Kubernetes. What it does: We use Pulumi to spin up these environments. Each scenario includes a diagram and an explanation of the available IT infrastructure. Engineers are tasked with fixing configuration issues to make the application work. Depending on the test type, the environment could range from a simple terminal to a full cloud environment or a web-based VSCode. Many of our…

Hi HN, This is a project I've been working on since the beginning of 2025 full time, without funding. Coding agents have fundamentally changed the way we write software. When you let an agent write code, pull dependencies, and run scripts, you are delegating trust while still keeping the responsibility. You shouldn't have to choose between moving fast with agents and maintaining basic control over your host machine. Normally, we just inspect the final result, treating the app like a black box. Most security tools only sandbox the app runtime and ignore the build phase. CapaKit is my attempt…
