Hey HN! This has been my project for a few years now. I recently brought it back to life after taking a pause to focus on my studies. My goal with this project is to separate fluff from science when shopping for supplements. I am doing this in 3 steps: 1.) I index every supplement on the market (extract each ingredient, normalize by quantity) 2.) I index every research paper on supplementation (rank every claim by effect type and effect size) 3.) I link data between supplements and research papers Earlier last year, I took pause on a project because I've ran into a few issues: Legal: Shady…

Backstory: I wanted to play with intraday stock data but couldn't find a free dataset anywhere. IEXCloud [1] offers API access to 1-minute granularity intraday historical price data, but I was worried that it could get expensive or unwieldy to build up a substantial dataset via API calls. Plus, IEX gives out their raw data for free. I probably should have just used the IEXTools python library [2] to parse IEX's raw data dumps, but I was working on a Julia project, so it felt more thematically appropriate to build a new tool from scratch. I haven't been actively using InvestorsExchange.jl a…

I started building this 10 months ago, largely using agentic coding tools. I've stayed very involved in the code base and architecture, and have never moved faster in my life as a dev. The word processor engine and rendering layer are all built from scratch - the only 3rd party library I used was the excellent Y.js for the CRDT stack. Would love some feedback!

The qmrExchange project is an open-source financial markets exchange simulator that realistically mimics all the main components of modern trading venues. It allows us to test and quantify the behavior of different agents in a laboratory and isolated environment without the high noise-to-signal ratio that is otherwise unavoidable in live settings. By creating a completely functioning trading venue whose access is only granted to a finite and known number of agents or trading algorithms, qmrExchange enables analyzing causation and quantifying the impact of each agent in a way that is…

Hey HN! I've always been fascinated by financial markets. This month, I decided to build a tool to help with the research of stocks and cryptocurrencies. I'm using YFinance as a data source because it's free and provides a wide range of reliable market data. For sentiment analysis, I'm leveraging Google Trends to gauge public interest and sentiment over time. The tool, named Zenith, is a command-line utility with four main features: Market Analysis: Provides insights like moving averages, RSI, and volatility for selected stocks or cryptocurrencies. Sentiment Analysis: Uses Google Trends to…

There is an adversarial relationship between developers and big model labs. Model labs charged developers higher API prices to subsidize their own agent harness offerings. Think Anthropic charging 5x higher Claude API prices to subsidize consumer subscriptions. So Cursor in a way was subsidizing their own direct competitor. DeepSeek V4 Flash totally inverted this relationship. Now you have a model that beats even Sonnet in some benchmarks and is totally opensourced. Now inference providers are racing to the bottom to optimize and give cheaper hosting. Every player with a non-SOTA is now…
