For the past 4 years, I've been tracking the install counts of AI coding extensions in the Visual Studio Code marketplace (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, etc.) Today, I built an interactive dashboard that lets you see daily install counts for any of them over time. The chart shows GitHub Copilot by default, and you can overlay or swap in any of the other 20+ tools to compare. You can also see important dates in each tool's history (pricing changes, major releases, etc.) and how daily installs changed around those dates. I got tired of collecting open source projects in my chrome bookmarks so I decided to compile a curated list of: - Recently active projects on GitHub - Mostly dev tools (but also productivity, analytics) - Projects which are "Alternative to X software" My bookmarks are finally empty:D If you have a great open source tool you use, I'd be glad to hear your suggestions. Made this todo list + calendar heat map over a couple of weekends, so its rough, but should be valuable enough to be used. Currently stores data in local storage, but I'm working on persisting data with auth + a database. Features coming in the couple weeks: (1) Search, (2) Categories. Hope you find it useful!

Hi HN, We are researchers from ETH Zurich interested in the real-world adoption and impact of Code Agents. To measure this, we built a dashboard, scraping all public PRs on GitHub, analyzing which are created by different code agents (Codex, Jules, Copilot, Devin, etc.), and measuring their merge rates, sliced by various repository and PR characteristics. https://insights.logicstar.ai Since mid-May, we've analyzed over 10 million PRs and already found some interesting trends: Usage is high, but shallow.
