Hey HN, I’m Kiet – one half of the two-person team building Onlook (https://beta.onlook.com/), an open-source [https://github.com/onlook-dev/onlook/] visual editor that lets you edit and create React apps live on an infinite canvas. We launched Onlook [1][2] as a local-first Electron app almost a year ago. Since then, “prompt-to-build” tools have blown up, but none let you design and iterate visually. We fixed that by taking a visual-first, AI-powered approach where you can prompt, style, and directly manipulate elements in your app like in a design…

Hey all, creator of Video.js and co-founder of Mux & Zencoder here. My team and I built this. I hope you like the themes we’ve built so far, and maybe even get inspired to build your own. I know Web Components are in a bit of a drama cycle right now. I’m happy to see them get any attention really. I’ve been pretty bullish on them since ~2013 when I started working with them, at least in the context of a widget like a video player. I’ve even given many related talks on them like this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6Mh84SRoDg). I would never push them for a large app or…

Everyone's shipping AI tools right now, and here I am with a visual editor. Still, I think many teams are very familiar with the problem of "marketing wants to change the landing page again." I've run into this for years. Campaign pages come in, engineers get pulled in, and tickets stack up. It's usually the same components, just rearranged. A few years ago, at a startup I worked at, we built an internal tool to deal with this. You register your existing React components, they show up as drag-and-drop blocks, and the result is a JSX string. No schema to learn, no changes to your component…

I spent quite a lot of time working on this one over the last 1.5 years. It started as a small project for my personal use because I wanted to keep all my self-hosted services visible so I wouldn't forget they existed lol. Using a web page wasn't ideal because of the white flicker every time I opened a new tab, so I decided to make this into a browser extension. From that time on, it became a lot bigger and got some traction (which I'm very happy about). It's made with React, but I tried to squeeze maximum performance (limited by my skills and desire to keep it somewhat readable, though) out…
