Products that do what Deep Timeline log-scale world history timeline does

This app is a weekend project I just built for fun. It's inspired by a log-scale geologic timeline I created with a friend in high school in the 1970s, on an adding-machine tape. We took the logarithms of the dates of all kinds of paleological events, plotted them on the 40' long tape, and hung it up in the classroom. We realized we could fit the Big Bang, dinosaurs, and what we ate for breakfast that day on the same scale! I still have that tape somewhere, and I've been wanting to create an interactive version for many many years. My goal is to inspire people to think about how we fit into…

I'm happy to announce the release of LineTime 1.5! LineTime is an iPad and iPhone app that lets you view the last 2000 years of history as a gorgeous, zoomable timeline. Pinch to zoom in to see individual days, or zoom out to see centuries. Tap on events to display information about that event. Most information is taken from Wikipedia, but with version 1.5 we also include over 400 well-researched, in-depth articles written by findingdulcinea.com (history articles geared toward teachers). With the latest update, it's also possible to filter the events being shown by a keyword phrase, so enter…

Two and a half years ago, Edward, Dylan, and I started this journey to build a new database for an old problem that has long plagued the infrastructure software industry. Today, we are proud to announce that this database, TiDB, is production ready. Abraham Lincoln once said, ‘the best way to predict the future is to create it.’ The future we predicted 771 days ago we now have created, because of the hard work and dedication of not just every member of our team, but also every contributor, user, and partner in our open source community. Today, we celebrate and pay gratitude to the power of…

Hi! Any history nerds here? I made Time Pin, a little game inspired by Geo Guessr but history-themed. You can play it here(it works on both desktop and mobile). Any feedback is appreciated: https://www.crazygames.com/game/time-pin Now some details: The goal is to guess the time and place that a character is from. You base your guess on some environmental photos, and on questions that you can ask the character(you have 12 questions but can only ask 5 so you have to choose carefully). The closer you are the more points you get. At the end, a portrait picture of the…

When learning about history, I like to visualize when certain events happened relative to other events to better understand the context. I started working on this idea of using AI to take an input topic and generate an interactive timeline of important events within the topic. Some topics to try: "Tell me about the history of space exploration" "When were important fossils discovered?" "Show me when all the nintendo consoles were released" For now the generated events must be "known" by the LLM. One idea to improve event generation is to hook the AI up to a Wikipedia MCP server or something.…

http://www.timeclover.com We made a time tracking tool to track hobbies and goals. No billable hours or other enterprise nonsense, just simplicity and what we feel are great graphs and visualizations of how you spend your time. I'm a big fan of seinfeld's method and this is supposed to take it a step further. Instead of planning activities, guilt yourself into not ruining your beautiful history. We’re still expanding the idea, and would love some feedback. Unfortunately everything is somewhat empty until you have tracked for a couple of days, so here is my public profile view to give you an…

I've just published my app and I would love to have more feedback on it. I got the idea when I was busy moving around several projects during my last semester. And I always don't know which project I should work on next. Even worse, whenever I'm busy with something, I no longer have time to "read book", "go jogging" etc. That's when I thought it would be great if there is an app that keeps track of all the tasks that you want to do and habits that you want to make. And here it is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKVr0k9Hax0…

Hey all! I whipped together this game where you're given a set of events and need to arrange them in chronological order. Looking for y'all to try it out and let me know what you think and what could be better. Made with Next, Firebase, and Tailwind. The source code can be found at https://github.com/ajhenry/chronle.com. Thanks - ajhenry

Hi, I'm Marcus. I've spent the last 15 months or so home-coding on a document database, after work, on weekends (every waking hour). My plans for this particular weekend was to implement log-structured writing. It went faster than I thought and the results were faster querying times and fast, append-only writes. I've been working on this for almost a decade and being this close to the finish line feels surreal. This is my seventh iteration I believe. Everytime I realized I had an architecture built on a bad model I walked away, often in fury, depressed over my weak coding abilities but…

Hi HN! I’ve spent the summer of the past 2 years building The Atlas, a procedural universe simulator that generates 1 sextillion galaxies (10²¹) from a single mathematical seed. Think No Man’s Sky meets theoretical physics, but running entirely in your browser. Everything is purely deterministic, the universe is calculated from SHA-256 hashed seeds using the golden ratio as primordial constant. There’s no database, no pre-saved data, just pure math. Time itself is treated as a coordinate, so the universe exists as a 4D structure where any moment can be computed on demand. Shut it down for…

Xtreeks: Tweet to track a habit. Why? It's much more motivating to share progress with others on the same journey, whether it's learning math, building in public, lifting weights, running, losing weight, learning a language, doing a side project, etc. Here's what my habit page looks like: https://xtreeks.com/gabemays (I'll be adding my other habits soon) Longer version - Here's a confession: This is a 10+ year obsession that my wife teases me about. I've been using various habit tracking tools for over a decade and have had multiple 1,000 day streaks. It started with I when a…
