In my exploration of OpenAI, I just created a domain-name search that takes business description as an input, and generates interesting domain names for it. It then uses DNSimple API to check if .com is available. In my view it is a much easier way to find a suitable domain, as the AI thinks of a much large pool of possible names than my own brain. SmartyNames found its own name, using the tool itself. Hope you enjoy it! https://smartynames.com/

After being frustrated for years with existing solutions, I'm working on a new domain finder. The idea is to combine everything I was missing: instant speed, good design, multiple extensions (with customizable search) and hack domains, real-time price comparison, SEO insights, domain name generation, meaning and sentiment analysis, favorites saving, custom alerts, management of all my domains all from one place. If you try it, I'd love to read about it.

This is my first Show HN: post. Domain Mongrel calculates the worth of a website/domain name based on different factors like popularity, length, search volume, dictionary, etc.

Domainy is a tool to get alerted on when the domain names you like and want are about to expire and also become available. https://www.domainy.io A few use cases - I'm monitoring all the other TLD domain names for which I would like to eventually acquire to protect brand names for the domain names that I already have (e.g. I have google.com and I want to make sure that I have google.abcde, google.edfg etc etc) - I also want to know when some of the domains that I would like will expire and possibly become available, so I can quickly buy them if I can. Just because a domain is…

The fascinating stories behind huge domain acquisitions

I tend to use AI to brainstorm domain names, but I kept wasting time pasting each idea into Namecheap to see if they were available. So I built DotComBuddy - it generates ideas (using DeepSeek V3 - switched from GPT-4o after realizing quality was just as good) and checks availability in real time via Name.com’s API. Built with Next.js and Vercel’s AI SDK, the app gives you a table of available domains with their price. 10 free searches to try it out, then $9/year (what I’d pay to never do this manually again). Sharing this for anyone else tired of switching tabs to check domains. Happy…

In the dark old days when I was uninspired and couldn't come up with a name for a project I'd hop onto my old pal Google Translate and see if a keyword associated with my name "sounded cool in German" If it did, and the domain was unused I'd scoop it up and use it. This process took a while, I'd try German, French, Russian, Armenian, Latvian, etc trying to find something cool that wasn't already being used. So I built http://www.catelus.com/ It translates your keyword into more than 30 different languages and checks if your-word-in-german.com and your-word-in-polish.com are…

Problem: I (accidentally) hoard domains :') 1. I get excited about a new project 2. I buy a domain 3. I get busy, and the domain collects a thick layer of dust I know I'm not alone in this, either So, I had the idea of creating a simple and casual marketplace for folks like me to list their domains at a fair price with a nice community feel to free up these caged domains It felt like a great project for me to pick up some new skills, so I got to it All up, it took me about a month, and I built the whole thing live on Twitch I've always sat on the design, marketing and front-end side of the…

Hi HN, I’ve been collecting and analyzing expired domains for years — especially those about to drop. Every day, tens of thousands expire. Most are junk, but a few still have traffic, backlinks, SEO value, or just great names. Finding them used to take hours. Last week I put my internal tools online: https://pendingdelete.domains No login, no paywall Updated daily Combines domain history, traffic, SEO data and AI-driven insights to identify valuable expirations The goal: help spot valuable domains quickly and skip the noise. Still a work-in-progress — would love feedback: Is this…

Hi HN, I built DomainExplorer.io, a search and analytics tool that lets you explore newly registered and expired domains across all TLDs — updated daily. The idea came from my frustration how hard it is to search for registered/expired domains. I wanted a simple and easy-to-use tool with web UI where you could submit queries like: - Find all domains in .com and .net zones that end with "chatgpt". - Find all expired domains that have "copilot" substring in name (excluding .ai and .io zones) and their name is shorter than 12 symbols - Find all domains with "amazon" in name and that were…

I built a simple tool that suggests good domain names based on your idea, something I usually spend way too long on myself. It's free, no sign-up needed, 5 searches / day (a bit wonky, working on that part). Mainly built it for myself but would love some feedback and tips for improvement! :) Thanks!
