Hey HN! I built a local Python prototyping tool that is finally the Python development environment I've always wanted. It has a Jupyter notebook for data crunching, a database of your choice (Python or MongoDB), and a Streamlit app for building a frontend visualization. You can edit the Streamlit backend via an embedded VSCode editor, or locally on your own IDE. Small team down here in South New Zealand just launched CodeLink. In short its an IDE (VSCode/JetBrains) plugin that lets you share blocks of code that link directly to the code inside your IDE or repo. We use it all the time and think its pretty nifty tech that lets you understand someone’s code in context very quickly. we’re hoping to keep refining it to make it better and more useful.

For years, I’ve been obsessed with mapping code visually — originally by copy-pasting snippets into FreeMind to untangle large code bases in big complex projects. It worked, but it was clunky. Now, I’ve built a VS Code/Visual Studio extension to do this natively: Code Mind Map. You can use it to add selected pieces of code to a mind map as nodes and then click to jump to the code from the map. Alex and I are devs, and we've noticed that recently we've been super productive at writing code (prompting :D).
