Products that do what Drive Google's Streetview Car does
Last night I made this small webpage which takes any two points and shows a video of driving from one point to another atop the Google's Streetview Car. Download the file here https://gist.github.com/spicavigo/5263511 and open it in your browser. Wait for a minute or so for the video to load. Note that you should not move away from the browser window because the video will start automatically once its ready and restarting it would require opening the JS console of your browser. I just redesigned an old (1 year) project and would appreciate any feedback. The site has no real purpose other than allowing you to explore the large amount of imagery gathered by Google. You can make it less random by choosing a country, or indeed any geographical area (cities etc.) http://www.mapcrunch.com Thanks

I love culture + travel, and one of my favorite pastimes is dropping into random streets on Google Street View. I just LOVE getting a tiny snippet into how people live, the architecture, and discovering hidden corners of places I'll probably never visit. I'm kinda weird like that. I have been taking Andrew Ng's Machine Learning course. The lecture module on Neural Networks ends with an intriguing video of the ALVINN autonomous car driving itself along normal roads at CMU in the mid 90s. I was inspired by that video to see what I could build myself. A link to my incomplete write up was posted a couple of weeks ago (ouch!) but I finally finished it and open sourced the code tonight (so you can build your own self driving car). I am not sure if this is fits the HN community, but I am posting it here if people are interested. This is the current iteration of the car: http://i.imgur.com/ko8YBh.jpg Details: I wrote a simple android app that streams the accelerometer data from the phone to the pi over a simple socket. The pi then uses this data to drive the DC motor and the servo motor. Tilting the phone to control the car feels very natural. In this[0] pic you can see the wifi dongle I've used.
