.env files have always felt archaic, insecure, clunky and honestly just not fun to work with. I see my friends (and myself) accidentally committing them all the time. Managing secrets across projects becomes a mess of copy-pasting keys into scattered env files with no real way to sync anything. My weekend project sendenv is a CLI tool that lets you share environment variables securely with someone else. It is built on top of magic-wormhole which allows for safe, account-free data transfer. When you send variables using sendenv, it creates a one-time code. You give this code to the person who needs the variables. They use the code in their shell to load the variables. Enc is a CLI tool for encryption, a modern and friendly alternative to GnuPG. It is easy to use, secure by default and can encrypt and decrypt files using password or encryption keys, manage and download keys, and sign data. Our goal was to make encryption available to all engineers without the need to learn a lot of new words, concepts, and commands. Hey HN! I've built this cli tool to manage env variables of a project, but mostly for fun and to try out Rust and the clap crate. I had this idea when I made a big mistake and broke some production stuff because I had a very messy .env file laying around in my project. I was implementing new features for one of my projects and in my .env file I had the test database url commented out and the production one was not.
