24 alternatives to Envoy playground in the browser

Hey HN, We made an Envoy Proxy playground [0] so we could test out our Envoy configs directly in the browser. This is based on Julia's work with Nginx Playround. [1] We forked that repo and added more Envoy to it. [2] Check it out! [0] - Envoy is a popular programmable proxy similar to Nginx or HAProxy that is popular with cloud-native setups: https://www.envoyproxy.io [1] - https://nginx-playground.wizardzines.com [2] - https://github.com/apoxy-dev/envoy-playground

Envoy Playground in the Browser is a tool for testing Envoy Proxy configurations directly in a web browser without local setup. Built for cloud-native developers and DevOps engineers who work with Envoy, a programmable… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. I recently dug up an old project in an attempt to improve on it. It's a code sandbox for playing around with HTMX in the browser, that runs a mock server within the sandbox iframe. The server "framework" is loosely based on Django, so if you're familiar with Django, you'll immediately understand what's going on. I recommend clicking through the examples. Github repo: https://github.com/lassebomh/htmx-playground Probably my favorite part is the lack of HTMX specific code. It's designed to mimic the client and server, but really nothing else. In principle, this means that…

Hey HN, This is Jan, founder of Apify, a web scraping and automation platform. Drawing on our team's years of experience, today we're launching Crawlee [1], the web scraping and browser automation library for Node.js that's designed for the fastest development and maximum reliability in production. For details, see the short video [2] or read the announcement blog post [3]. Main features: - Supports headless browsers with Playwright or Puppeteer - Supports raw HTTP crawling with Cheerio or JSDOM - Automated parallelization and scaling of crawlers for best performance - Avoids blocking using…

I've been working on browser automation infrastructure for a while and kept hitting the same ceiling: Playwright and Puppeteer are great for scripting but fall apart when you need stealth at scale. Cloud-based solutions like Browserbase work but you're sending all your data to a third party and can't control the environment. So we built Owl Browser, a self-hosted Chromium-based engine that runs in a single Docker container. The core technical problem we tried to solve was fingerprint consistency. Most browser automation tools either ignore fingerprinting entirely or apply surface-level…

Inspired by Compiler Explorer and other playground/fiddle websites like jsfiddle, db-fiddle, Go playground, and Rust playground, I thought it would be cool to have a playground for nearly any program so I've been working on Program Explorer: a playground for running programs from containers. I am inspired by these playgrounds because they are great educational tools for quickly experimenting and as communication tools by sharing shortlinks that reproduce bugs for instance. I would love for every open source project that publishes a container to get their own playground for free. I'm…

To power the firewalling for our agents so that they couldn't contact arbitrary services, I build netfence. It's like Envoy but for eBPF filters. It allows you to define different DNS-based rules that are resolved in a local daemon to IPs, then pushed to the eBPF filter to allow traffic. By doing it this way, we can still allow DNS-defined rules, but prevent contacting random IPs. There's also no network performance penalty, since it's just DNS lookups and eBPF filters referencing memory. It also means you don't have to tamper with the base image, which the agent could potentially manipulate…

The only way to go fast is full YOLO mode in your coding agent. I've got the local sandbox figured out (pro tip: Incus VMs work great) but I wanted to keep my agents from doing things like inadvertently blowing up my cloud services or chasing a prompt to POST to some random website. I struggle most with this on my side projects where my permission model isn't quite as robust as it is at the office. I started with a firewall on the Incus container but every time the agent needed access to something new, I was poking more holes in it - and it didn't differentiate between HTTP verbs. I've been…

Previously I worked on Envoy at Lyft. Engineered with purpose-built LLMs, Arch handles the critical but undifferentiated tasks related to the handling and processing of prompts, including detecting and rejecting jailbreak attempts, intelligently calling “backend” APIs to fulfill the user’s request represented in a prompt, routing to and offering disaster recovery between upstream LLMs, and managing the observability…

Hi HN, I’m sharing mochi.js (https://github.com/0xchasercat/mochi), a Bun-native, raw-CDP browser automation framework. It's designed to make programmatic browser use more effective by focusing on consistency and measured parity with regular traffic, purely from the JS layer, against stock Chromium. The most common forms of browser automation focus heavily on client-side line by line probes, which are mostly cosmetic. This makes people feel better but it doesn't have much relevance to actual WAF or anti-automation defences. Mochi.js focuses on what actually matters,…
