Built this as a guide for users of my hosting service. Everything here was run on a real instance. The Mesa/LLVM dependency is genuinely painful on a 1GB disk, and I couldn't find a way around it. WindowMaker won the window manager battle purely on dependency chain cleanliness; it pulls in no GTK, no Python, no audio stack. Happy to answer questions about any of the choices made. Screenshots at the end.

I thought it'd be interesting to use Linux PSI (Pressure Stall Information) for an LLM runtime to trim the KV cache. This is mainly useful imo for edge devices like the Jetson Orin super nano kit which have unified memory. I haven't benched much, but plan to do so more over time and see if I can make a real use of it as I run local LLMs. Let me know if it makes sense :P (I of course vibed this idea)

Hi, so over the weekend I built a free to use service to compress one or more images using MozJEPG encoding enabled via WASM. It's a static site, all the processing happens on the client side, no file uploads or sign-ups needed! Why? The existing services are either filled with ads or require you to sign-up / pay. would greatly appreciate any feedback! TIA!

This is a tool I coded in AutoIt that crawls a Subreddit RSS and finds images to download. If the link leads to a gallery, it crawls that gallery for other images. This is intended for private use only. I don't want you to vacuum pictures off the various image boards this program crawls and call them your own and blame it all on me. Just use it if you want to get cool wallpapers every day or something that's not copyright infringing. Source is included this time. Yes it's a mess, yes I didn't use switch(), yes I should have added more comments and I should name my variables better. And yes,…

Mido makes downloading the latest release of Windows from official Microsoft servers a breeze so you can quickly get your VMs (or even physical machines) up & running in no time! It aims to automate these Microsoft download pages (which it does by interacting with Microsoft's proprietary downloading API): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 It's all written very cleanly in pure POSIX sh and curl, so it will run anywhere!

Hey HN! I'm Guy, one of the creators of DAGsHub. We help data scientists track experiments and version their code, data & models using Git. We're committed to building on open source protocols and improving the user experience on top of them - in this case, DVC. We've built capabilities on top of it like visually interacting with your pipeline, creating data pull requests, browsing data files etc. One thing we kept running into is users being challenged by setting up the cloud environment necessary, to push their data to AWS S3, GCS (which we support), and other DVC remotes. Since our focus…

Over the past few months, as we scaled our internal AI Agents, we hit a dead end: Running LLM-generated arbitrary code in Docker is basically running naked on security due to container escape risks. But using full traditional VMs takes minutes to boot and eats too much memory to support high-density concurrency. We loved the developer experience of SaaS sandboxes on the market, but they are closed-source, expensive, and have too high a barrier to entry for self-hosting. So, our team decided to build our own. After months of grinding, using RustVMM and KVM, we built a blazing-fast,…

We invested a lot of time hacking around with the Google Analytics API and D3 to build a responsive custom reporting engine that can render up to 20 charts and graphs on a single page in just a few seconds. Just released a product based on our technology. Looking for feedback. Check out Megalytic. http://megalytic.com
