We built ChessBoss at the TechCrunch Disrupt hackathon this week. It didn’t make the top 10 but I thought Hacker News might think it’s pretty cool. https://devpost.com/software/chess-boss There are these really cool smart chessboards that can suggest moves and track your games... but they’re $400 and weigh 19 pounds. Hello, This is something I've wanted to build for awhile (first bought the domain in 2020 (then lost it for a year+)). It's a tactics solver on each new tab page. There are 5 modes of play: Easy (<1200 elo) Medium (1200-1800) Hard (1800-2400) Expert (2400+) Speedrun (solve as many puzzles as possible in 60 seconds). I'm having a ton of fun with it, and definitely noticing improvements with actual games (definitely solved the most puzzles in my life while developing this extension). Test your prompt engineering skills by writing prompts and battling them against each other! Your prompt template can access the board state, the move history, and a list of legal moves, and the game engine selects the first legal move in the string response from the LLM you query. My best prompt so far ignores the board state and the move history and just tries to play mates, make captures, and promote pawns. Can you do better?

Chessmate is a transformer-based model that predicts your next chess move, tailored to players around 1500 ELO on lichess. Soon it will also offer personalized models and a broader range of ELO-based models. Hopefully this can offer a new and innovative way to learn chess and enjoy playing against a uniquely challenging bot!

Launch day is here! This has been my passion project, to recreate Duolingo for chess! I always thought Duolingo had amazing "hooks" to help people learn new languages, so I implemented its spaced-repetition, reports and daily and weekly training reminders in a Chess learning platform for chess improvers! I built it in Meteor.js and React.js. I chose Meteor to be able to add Cordova in the future. The Caro-Kann course (for white) is completely free, if you guys want to try it. What do you folks think?
