TinyFast▲319I am a developer. I have been building stuff for the last 13 years. One common challenge in all my projects is compressing assets to make them as small as possible. I used to end up using online compressors, but this has a lot of privacy concerns. So, I finally set down for couple of weeks and built this simple app. I can just drag and drop assets in it and it shrinks them. It currently supports around 25 file types. I built a lot of iOS apps but this is the first time building a macOS app, so any feedback is welcome.

I have posted a much earlier version of this over a year ago [0]. Since then a lot has changed. Obviously, the name has changed. This happened for the paper publication [1]. I have also optimized the speed, integrated ISA-L for special cases, limited the compression-ratio-dependent maximum memory consumption, and finally added parallelized CRC32 computation, which adds ~5% overhead no matter the number of cores used. At this point, I am leaning towards calling it production-ready although there are still many ideas for improvements. Redoing the benchmarks of the older Show HN, would look…

Web Speed▲118Hey everyone, I've been working on a tool called Web Speed. It takes web pages full of HTML and parses them into an easily readable sitemap for an AI agent. By ensuring the AI doesn't have to analyze the full HTML from the page or screenshots of the page, it makes the agent a lot cheaper and faster. It's MCP-native, so any AI that supports MCP can run it and take control of your browser for you. There are both “normal” and post-auth versions live on GitHub. What I think is the coolest thing about the project is the global cache of sitemaps. When a user visits a site, it takes the sitemap and…

Smallimg▲7Hi HN, I built a free image compression tool called Smallimg.cc that runs entirely in the browser. The main motivation was privacy. I was never comfortable uploading potentially sensitive images to a third-party server just for compression. This tool solves that by using JavaScript and WebAssembly to perform all the processing on the client-side. Your files are never transferred over the network. Key features: Total Privacy: Your images never leave your computer. Incredible Speed: No upload/download time, just instant processing. Full Control: You can adjust quality, resize, and convert…

Hello HN, I'm very excited to have finished a gzip decoder that can speed up decompression using threads. On my Ryzen 3900X, I measured a 8x speedup over standard gzip, reaching 1.6 GB/s for a synthetic file with a consistent compression ratio of 1.3. A functional decompressor like this is kind of a first, that's why I am excited. Pragzip implements the two-staged decompression idea put forward with pugz, which unfortunately only works with gzipped text files not arbitrary files and has many more limitations. I think my main contribution over pugz might be a fast (~10 MB/s)…
