24 alternatives to FeyNoBg – Automatic background removal model and training library
Hey HN, I’m Shreyash from Feyn. We help companies build custom models from their data. Today, we’re releasing FeyNoBg, an automatic background removal model. Alongside it, we're open-sourcing NoBg, the Python library we built to train and run it. Try the model here: https://huggingface.co/spaces/feyninc/feynobg. Hi HN, Removing the background from images is a surprisingly common image processing task, and AI has made it really easy. The technology has come a long way since segment leader remove.bg launched here on hn in Dec 2018 [1]. Chasing remove.bg's success, a legion of providers have come on the market offering varying levels of quality & service. Despite there being a large number of competing services, most still price for very high (~95%?) gross margins. Furthermore, subscriptions make the effective unit price a lot higher than the list price for infrequent users, and requires effort &…

Yesterday,I saw a post in X asking for a self-hostable background remover service. I was thinking, can we make it work by using WebGPU? So it will run in the browser and doesn't require any server/queue to run After a couple of hours, I created this and published the source code on https://github.com/ducan-ne/remove-bg It's still new so welcome any ideas and contributions Powered by WebGPU and Transformer.js (RMBG V1.4 model)

Hi all! This morning, we released a new Apache 2.0 licensed model on HuggingFace for detecting hallucinations in retrieval augmented generation (RAG) systems. What we've found is that even when given a "simple" instruction like "summarize the following news article," every LLM that's available hallucinates to some extent, making up details that never existed in the source article -- and some of them quite a bit. As a RAG provider and proponents of ethical AI, we want to see LLMs get better at this. We've published an open source model, a blog more thoroughly describing our methodology (and…

For many everyday images, background removal works well. The remaining challenge is images with fine hair, fur, glass, transparent objects, motion blur, low-contrast subjects, or cluttered backgrounds. Improving results on those difficult cases has been the focus of this project. This is the third iteration of the model, built through many rounds of training and evaluation. I've focused on improving performance on the kinds of images that are still difficult for many background removal tools. I recently released the third iteration of my open-weight background removal model (Apache-2.0 for…
