Products that do what Gaia Atlas – Local Stellar Map does
Hi there! I made the fan-created Project Hail Mary Star Map and had so much fun with the initial version that I decided to create a v2 that lets you explore our local star system and travel to many more stars. This new version lets you visit dozens of named stars, plan interstellar travel, view exoplanet systems, learn about stellar characteristics, and view 3D constellations. This version also includes 600k stars rendered in-browser with a higher resolution skybox rendered from the GAIA DR3 mission data. Also, you can now generate links to share what you find! Here is an example of plotting…

Hello, I am the creator and maintainer of Stellarium Mobile. I have been working in my free time for about a year on this new project Galaxium, that is more about traveling in the universe rather than looking at the sky from Earth. It is still experimental, and at the moment I am not sure what it will become. Feedback is welcome.

Hello HN! My name is Rémy and I recently published an astronomy dashboard where everything is open source: the code of the website, the framework it is based on and the library that computes astronomical data. For the last few years, I have been developing the Ruby library Astronoby (https://github.com/rhannequin/astronoby) with as much dedication and perseverance I could while I don't have any scientific academic background. My end goal was to use this library and build a website that not only provides as much data as possible, but let anyone access and understand how it…

Hi HN, I'm a solo dev working on a space RTS game set in the Milky Way galaxy, containing currently known stars and exoplanets with their real characteristics, the remaining stars are procedurally generated. In the online mode, all players are in the same universe, and the world is persistent. You compete with other players to take back the Solar System and end your exile. Players can always retreat to the periphery to regain strength and rebuild their fleets as needed. It also includes an procedural spaceship generator that allows creating your own spaceship designs. Spaceships visuals…

This was my recent weekend project, aimed at teaching me JavaScript, a bit of HTML5, and (mostly) WebGL. The orbital data are from NASA JPL. I was inspired in part by this Flash app: http://www.dynamicdiagrams.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/orrery_2011_bce.swf, but wanted to do something in 3D. Coming from the games-dev world, this is my first introduction to web coding. The UI is jquery. I mostly used http://learningwebgl.com/blog for the 3D stuff. Being WebGL, it will work mostly on Chrome, Firefox 4 Beta. Forget about IE. I needed to figure out how to render text to the WebGL canvas - I…
