Creator here. I was looking for something as simple as Backblaze Personal [1] but privacy focused and open source. This is my attempt to build that. Uses PyQt6 [2] for the GUI and Pyinstaller [3] for creating the platform specific binaries. The backup engine under the hood is Restic [4]. The server code is written in Laravel [5]. All the code is on GitHub [6]. I actually really like Backblaze (even use B2 for this offering behind the scenes) so this isn't meant to throw shade their way. Just wanted a private open source alternative. Something like Bitwarden but for backups. [1]…

INSTALL EXTENSION vsql-complex; CREATE TABLE t (val COMPLEX); Look, MySQL is awesome [flamewar incoming?]. But the ecosystem has stagnated. Why? No permissionless innovation. Postgres has flourished because people can change the core of the database (look at pgvector and pg_textsearch), without having to get their changes accepted upstream. (This, btw, is what powered GitHub's early success: you can fork a repo and make changes without needing the owners' approval) VillageSQL is a tracking fork of MySQL (open source, ofc) that adds an extension framework: * Drop-in replacement * Add custom…

I built this web-based developer utility few years ago when I couldn't find any opensource GUI-based query builder for mysql (similar to what MS Access had). This app can be run locally. The online demo uses static hardcoded values. Screencast's link is included in the README file.

We built VillageSQL because we love MySQL, but we’ve watched the ecosystem stagnate while PostgreSQL flourished with extensions like pgvector and pg_textsearch. We wanted to give MySQL that same extensibility so teams don’t have to migrate databases just to keep building nowadays. VillageSQL is an open-source, tracking fork of MySQL that is a drop-in replacement and adds a true extension framework. How it works: +It’s a drop-in replacement +We added an interface to load external shared libraries (.so files) as extensions. +You define custom data types and functions (with indexes coming soon)…
