Products that do what GitTrends – Find out when you're trending on GitHub does
Hey HN! We're a team of two Pakistani brothers who like to build things. Every year we have a tradition of hacking together a fun project on the side, to learn and solve a niche problem. The idea of GitTrends came from the open-source work that we do in our daily jobs. We noticed how difficult it was to see when our repositories or developers were trending. For an event that can cause such an impact on open-source work, we thought there should be a dedicated solution. So we built it! GitTrends allows you to search a database of GitHub Trending data that we collect every 5th minute. With a…

What works now: user signups, org creations, private/public repos, and importing GitHub repositories (both as read-only mirrors and full migrations). So basically, you can create, push and pull to a repo, but we don't have many features quite yet (issues, PRs, CI). What is a bit unique is: 1) we built it in Rust and 2) the website is a little odd. Its design is inspired by CLIs (e.g., fzf, broot, vim) instead of web apps, and as such, lacks some affordances that you might typically expect in favor of keyboard-driven instant navigations (we have the very ambitious goal of an FCP of…

Over the past few weeks I've been working on a small application to view trending repos on GitHub. I built the PWA[1] with React, Next.js and GraphQL .. but what's interesting is the application is only using React server side, meaning the client side javascript is only a few lines code adding some event listeners and registering a service worker for offline capability. This helped me achieve a perfect google chrome performance audit I learned a ton working on it and would love to talk about it if anyone has any questions! GitDiagram is an open-source micro dev-tool that I made this past week Given any public GitHub repository it generates diagrams in Mermaid.js with Claude 3.5 Sonnet I extract information from the file tree and README for details and interactivity (you can click components to be taken to relevant files and directories) Also, you can replace "hub" with "diagram" in any repository URL to access its diagram I created this because I wanted to contribute to open-source projects but quickly realized their codebases are too massive for me to dig through manually, so this helps me get started I do…
