My book on "GNU grep and ripgrep" is free to download today and tomorrow [1][2] Code snippets, example files and sample chapters are available on GitHub [3] The book uses plenty of examples and regular expressions are also covered from scratch. The book is suitable for beginners as well as serves as a reference. Hope you find it useful, I would be grateful for your feedback and suggestions. I used pandoc+xelatex [4] to generate the pdf. `makedown` allows you to organise your shell scripts in one or several markdown files, by mix and matching different scripting languages for various commands and needs. zsh/bash/sh, python, javascript or anything else available on your system. Handy for replacing one-line-based package.json scripts or shell-based Makefiles. One can also write documentation and explanations to various commands in the same `.md` file. Most editors highlight correctly most languages in the markdown code blocks, even when you use several scripting languages. Here is a demo .md file…

I like bash, and use it as often as possible. Sometimes the projects become large. I needed a tool to help generate documentation. Makes it easier to step away, come back after some time, and re-acquaint myself with the monstrosity I've wrought. `awkdoc` generates markdown documentation from in-line comments in shell scripts.

Coding agents spend a lot of time in the shell. When exploring a codebase, they usually reach for the same handful of tools: grep, find, ls, cat. We built a public SSH server that hosts Supabase docs as markdown files so that agents can explore them the same way they explore code: ssh supabase.sh grep -rl 'RLS' docs ssh supabase.sh cat docs/guides/database/postgres/row-level-security.md | head -10 Under the hood commands run inside Vercel's just-bash [1] library - an emulated bash shell sandboxed within the JS runtime. It uses a VFS where the docs are mounted as markdown…
