Back in April I left the Agents team at Cloudflare because even though I loved the work, I always had the drive to build the apps rather than the libraries. I felt like nobody was building the ideas that I wanted to exist. My biggest drive was wanting my agents to run fully on “the cloud” yet having them on all my machines at the same time. A few days ago I found myself trying out GLM 5.2 and was really positively impressed. The capabilities and security I was getting from this LLM are similar to those I've gotten from models like Claude or GPT, and this really surprised me. But then I thought, "I wonder how it would work on a normal computer like mine," and above all, "I wonder if it would work without going into OOM on a computer like mine." The friction points of onboarding and operating cloud systems are personal problems to me. I've been a big fan of fly.io with it’s devx, but cold starts and pricing have been a consistent problem. Even for side projects it's painful if they take 30s to load, it just kills the whole experience.
