24 alternatives to Hiraeth – AWS Emulator

With the recent changes around Localstack pricing/licensing I've been hunting for alternatives. I decided that it might be a fun experiment to try rolling my own. SQS is a service I use heavily so I chose that as the first service to implement. I have more services planned and in development. A few things I think are cool: 4MB Docker Image Size Instant Startup AWS Sigv4 Authentication A little admin UI that can be helpful for development/troubleshooting Most of the SQS API implemented, the rest will soon follow :)

Hiraeth is a lightweight AWS emulator designed for local development, starting with SQS implementation. The 4MB Docker image starts instantly and supports AWS SigV4 authentication, making it suitable for developers who… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

ohai! I've released Lightwhale 3, which is possibly the easiest way to self-host Docker containers. It's a free, immutable Linux system purpose-built to live-boot straight into a working Docker Engine, thereby shortcutting the need for installation, configuration, and maintenance. Its simple design makes it easy to learn, and its low memory footprint should make it especially attractive during these times of RAMageddon. If this has piqued your interest, do check it out, along with its easy-to-follow Getting Started guide. In any event, have a nice day! =)

Hey HN: Kaveh here, the founder of https://www.usage.ai/ We launched on Hacker News for the first time early last year, and we've made a lot of progress since then. We've saved tens of millions of dollars for companies, and we are even more excited to announce the launch of a new product: insured reservations for RDS! We worked closely with AWS on this feature and are excited to finally make it generally available. We help companies drive down AWS EC2 & RDS spend. Why? Because the way it's done now is a pain. DevOps and Software Engineers end up spending time managing costs…

Hey HN! Pipedream is an integration and compute platform purpose-built for developers building workflows and connecting cloud services. You can author workflows without writing any code: Pipedream supports over 700 integrated applications (GitHub, Slack, etc) [1] and all connectors are open source [2]. In addition, you can write any Node.js, Python, Go, or Bash code within workflows, extending the pre-built integrations with your own custom logic. Since we launched Pipedream on HN [3], over 300k developers have used the product. Pipedream developers tell us consistently that they love the…

Hi HN! We’re Yann, Edouard, and Bastien from Koyeb (https://www.koyeb.com/). We’re building a platform to let you deploy full-stack apps on high-performance hardware around the world, with zero configuration. We provide a “global serverless feeling”, without the hassle of re-writing all your apps or managing k8s complexity [1]. We built Scaleway, a cloud service provider where we designed ARM servers and provided them as cloud servers. During our time there, we saw customers struggle with the same issues while trying to deploy full-stack applications and APIs resiliently. As…

I've built this to make it easy to host your own infra for lightweight VMs at large scale. Intended for exec of AI-generated code, for CICD runners, or for off-chain AI DApps. Mainly to avoid Docker-in-Docker dangers and mess. Super easy to use with CLI / Python SDK, friendly to AI engs who usually don't like to mess with VM orchestration and networking too much. Defense-in-depth philosophy. Would love to get feedback (and contributors: clear & exciting roadmap!), thx

Hey HN: I'm Kaveh, the founder of Usage (https://www.usage.ai/) We help companies drive down AWS costs. Why? Because the way it's done now is a pain. Stakeholders, especially engineers, are required to spend unnecessary time manually finding underutilized or overly expensive EC2s. We believe the optimization process should be done automatically through a series of sophisticated algorithms. At the moment, there are over 70,000 AWS EC2 prices - doing that manually just won't scale at most organizations. My background is in software engineering. Previous to founding Usage, I…

Hello HN: Here is the link https://apps.apple.com/app/id1579078660 After forgetting to turn off a p2.xlarge instance for a week, I got so mad at myself I learnt swiftUI to build a native macOS console for most of the actions I do on the web AWS console. I didnt want to use electron or other non native frameworks. Most importantly I just wanted it to know how much a certain instance costs right now, no matter its state, its type, its lifecycle(like ondemand or spot) and the costs associated with the EBS volumes attached including their IOPS/throughput and etc. It also…

I am Romaric, CEO of Qovery (https://www.qovery.com) (Techstars Paris 2019). As an early-stage startup, I know how it can be painful to stay focus on our business. Especially when it comes to putting our apps online, that's precisely why, with my team of 7, we have created Qovery to help any company to deploy their apps on AWS in 30 minutes instead of months (no joke). We're still early stage, but: 1. More than 1200 developers and 10 companies are using Qovery . 2. We are financially backed by the co-founders of Datadog, Docker, PeopleDoc, and Contentsquare . Since there’s a few discussions recently on $4 VPSes we thought you might be interested in Symbiosis, a cheaper and simpler managed k8s provider. Supported features include external LBs, encrypted+replicated storage and autoscaler. Infrastructure can be managed with UI, CLI, Terraform or Pulumi. Control planes are free of charge and a 1vCPU/2GB node goes for $6 per month. We’re live in Germany right now and we’re expanding into US during 2023. Feel free to try it out and leave a comment.
