I think LLMs are overused to summarise and underused to help us read deeper. I built a system for Claude Code to browse 100 non-fiction books and find interesting connections between them. I started out with a pipeline in stages, chaining together LLM calls to build up a context of the library. I was mainly getting back the insight that I was baking into the prompts, and the results weren't particularly surprising. Last year, I was running an independent marketplace for ebooks (similar to Smashwords), which failed. After its demise, we took a long look at ebooks and decided rather than competing with Amazon and iTunes, we should focus on solving a more pressing problem most authors face: how to get their books noticed in the first place. People already come to Claude before buying a book. They ask what to read, whether a book is worth starting etc. With coffeetable installed(a claude connector) Claude can now bring you few pages right inside the chat.
