24 alternatives to I built a replacement for Google Timeline

Hey guys, I wanted to show you an application I built during the last year and a half or so. It's called Dawarich and it's a free open-source self-hostable web app that is aimed to replace Google Timeline. And it did for me and couple of hundreds of self-hosters. Recently my partner and I also launched a subscription-based cloud version, so those who don't have time or not interested in self-hosting could use it too. So, what Dawarich can do for you? - It visualized your movements - You can track your movements with our iOS app (I partnered up with a friend to make it happen) or one of 3rd…

Dawarich is a free, open-source web application that replaces Google Timeline by tracking and visualizing user movements. It works with iOS and Android apps like GPSLogger and OwnTracks, and supports importing location… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Prices are shown for the 1 we have checked on their own sites, 1 of them free or with a free tier.

Hey HN, after the app I actually used to track my period wanted me to log in and save my data in the cloud, I decided to write my own. Most apps in this area are based on a subscription model and display far too much information anyway. For me, a simple calendar is enough where I can add a few notes if necessary. So that is the result of my work - a simple design and the data is only saved on the smartphone.

I've been working on markwhen for a bit as a way to create timelines and calendars from plain text, like markdown. I personally like tools that let you immediately start using them, and I set out to do that here with markwhen. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

I love the looks and UX of the Google calendar. But I wanted to have a version I could use more freely in my own projects, still looking similar to the one from Google.

I was a bit concerned when Google was sending comms about decommissioning Timeline on web. Then they did a mobile migration, and lost a bunch of user info. Started this app so I can always have a copy of my timeline on my icloud + server + device (3,2,1 rule) Hope y'all are able to find some value in it as well! I initially released this as just an IOS app. Since then it has been growing steadily but a lot of people have emailed asking for a web / android version. It took me nearly 2 months to build a version for the web. The nice thing about using Convex as my backend is that all the data is always synced between the app and web. I do not have to setup any syncing logic. The moment you change something in the app, it will reflect on the web version in realtime. I know there are loads of these kind of tools online but it's starting to feel like mine is actually starting to differentiate itself…

Hi HN, I’m the founder of Zesfy, a productivity app that I’ve been developing over the past few years. It’s designed to seamlessly integrate your tasks with your calendar, allowing you to transform your to-do lists into actionable events in just seconds. Here are some of its key features: - Task Progress: Automatically update your progress based on subtasks completed - Step: Create step-by-step breakdown of the subtask - Target: Organize tasks with due date - Session: Insert multiple tasks to calendar event - Space: Filter event from specific sets of calendars I recently introduced new…

I recently decided to try out Google Tasks as my only task management system, and while I find some things about the interface great, it really isn't suited for someone like me who has multiple lists with lots of elements on each. So, I whipped this together real fast and I can't imagine using Google Tasks without it anymore. I realized you might want it too, so I put it on the web. Enjoy :)

Look, every journaling app out there wants you to organize things into folders and tags and templates. I just wanted to write something down every day. So I built this. One note per day. That's the whole deal. - Can't edit yesterday. What's done is done. Keeps you from fussing over old entries instead of writing today's. - Year view with dots showing which days you actually wrote. It's a streak chart. Works better than it should. - No signup required. Opens right up, stores everything locally in your browser. Optional cloud sync if you want it - E2E encrypted with AES-GCM, zero-knowledge,…

I've been running Simpluna, a period-tracking app, for six years. It's a company based in Tokyo, Japan, but development and operations are basically a one-person effort. The app is built with React Native (Expo). The defining trait of the app is that it's simple, with no unnecessary features. Recording periods, calculating predictions, and sending notifications — that's the core of it. This space is dominated by big players (Flo, Clue, and in Japan, Luna Luna). Building something similar would have been hopeless, so I made the things those apps don't have my selling point. Optional features…

Heya HN, I started journaling about a year ago and recently landed in my perfect setup, a simple sentence to remember each day, combined with a flexible habit tracker. Over the holidays I turned this approach into a free expo app that I want to share. Basically, you get: - One sentence per day, enough to remember each day. - Flexible habit tracking (still working on finding the best UX here) - No backend, no tracking, all in device (just sentry for errors) - Clean, minimal interface - Export your data - Stats to track your progress I built this primarily for my own use, but I'd love to hear…

Hi! My name is Kirill, I am developing yoth-yoth, a platform that combines canvas boards, pages, task tracker, calendar and much more (but in the future). The boards and the raw version of the pages are currently available. Here is a quick intro on using the boards: https://yoth-yoth.com/b/help For basic use, the platform is free and requires no registration, and all data is stored locally in the browser. Data synchronization and collaboration with other users are available by subscription. There are a lot of things in the plans, for example, the task tracker and calendar…

Hey HN! I made TimeAnt because my dad needed a simple way to track his time at work and he didn’t like the other apps out there because they were too complicated or had way too many features. So, I built an app that just does the basics: track work hours, meetings, breaks, lunch and optionally lets you add notes - and that's it. It’s totally free, works both online and offline, and doesn’t require an account (but you can create one if you want). The goal was to keep it super simple and let you focus on tracking time without all the fluff. It also gave me a chance to learn Swift and build my…

Hi, I developed Life Tile for iPhone. It tracks your time passively and visualizes it as a Mondrian-style grid. It's a one-time purchase app with a 7-day trial. I was a user of a similar app named Life Cycle. Since the app hasn't been updated in a while, I tried to make a better app with my ideas and experiences. I used a big square timeline instead of a donut chart. And I added more useful views: tree-map, map, and list. You can use categorized activities with custom colors. The data never leaves a device. No account, No Server. It only supports data backup using iCloud. It was for privacy…
