Products that do what I built an open-source financial research terminal (SEC data and SQL) does

I posted this a few weeks ago and the server died under the traffic. Fixed that by adding an in-mem caching layer with Redis/valkey and added CloudFront caching for static content. Also upgraded the server. Also fixed the Firefox bugs, trying again. It's a research tool for US stocks. Financials for ~10k companies pulled from SEC filings. You can chart any metric across companies, filter news by ticker, ask questions in plain English and get a chart back. There's also SQL console against the whole database, which is the part I like to use together with the AI chat (generates an SQL…

For the last several years I've been creating a ERP platform, Stockor. While I'm going to continue offering it as a SaaS, I've decided to also open-source it. I'm hopeful that by doing so it will: 1) Grow it into a Wordpress size juggernaut with a plugin for any business process under the sun. 2) Bring me interesting consulting gigs. The open-source site is at stockor.org. There's a demo up at stockor.com/demo as well. Looking forward to hearing HN's thoughts!

Hey HN, I'm Steve, co-founder of Factor.fyi, a new data platform for querying and visualizing financial datasets using SQL. During the pandemic, I took much more of an active role in managing my portfolio. I wanted to be able to make informed decisions about the investments I was making, and explore financial data in new ways. Market and Econ data are some of the most talked-about and widely-available datasets out there, but I was frustrated by the lack of options to answer questions I had, like, "What would have happened if I had started dollar-cost averaging VTI back in 2013?"[1] Or, "How…

Hi HN, We’re a small team working on 13Radar.com, which we launched about two weeks ago after 4 months of development. I’m the founder, and together with the team we’re building a platform that tracks hedge fund portfolios in real-time based on SEC Form 13F filings. AI has been a major helper in our workflow. For a single webpage, we often consult multiple AI systems in parallel, generating different versions and comparing them side by side before deciding on the final design or implementation. More than 60% of the research, design, and coding involved AI assistance. For UI design we used…

I've developed a web app that organizes financial statements from SEC. There are similar products on the Internet, but all of them I found just "abstracts" raw information into something. For example, typical website has "Revenue" as a top-line metrics. In reality, that can be "Total Revenue", "Net Sales", "Operating Revenue", and so on. Those website can't cover exceptional values in same reason. I believe serious investors need raw financial statements aggregated because each number reflect the companies' financial performance. Major platforms like Bloomberg does that but too expensive for…

I was super annoy that all stock news site are filled with distracting Ads and interrupting paywalls. My JP Morgan analyst friend told me that JP spend millions internally to train an AI on news to help their traders filter noise. With the new LLM, we decided to make it better. Research also shows using AI analyze news at scale can outperform the market. Our AI will gather, summarize, and extract news insights for a particular stock. We are testing with a few trading firms in beta and the results were pretty good already. If you are interested, please comment "interested" I will give you…

Hi, my name is Kam, and today my cofounder Josh and I are shipping Finterm, a CLI that gives coding agents direct access to financial data: stock prices, options data, SEC filings, and Ticker Deep Research, a filtered ticker news search. I’m a developer and have been a full-time trader for the past few years.Recently I have been using LLMs more and more in my trading and strategy. I always found it frustrating that Claude Code or GPT did not have direct access to actual financial information and had to rely on web search, so it couldn’t get me more granular numbers for specific options…

Hey HN, we built an Econ+Finance database to let AI agents do investment research. We spend a lot of tokens to organize macro releases and SEC filings into a clean format, so that your agents have more context to do actual analysis. The problem AI agents are great at data analysis. But they become ineffective if most of their context window is spent on gathering and cleaning data, instead of validating hypotheses. Data in the wild is messy and rarely standardized. Definitions and measurements change over time. This problem is compounded by a fragmented data universe. Point solutions exist…

Hello HN, Lucas here. I’ve been working with BigQuery for ~5 years, mostly in large (petabyte-scale) environments. Over time we ended up spending a lot of money and engineering effort just trying to understand where costs were coming from, why and how to optimize them. At some point we decided to stop, leverage all our past experience and spend a full cycle building tooling focused on cost visibility and optimization. The main goal was to regain ownership of cost data and make it possible to understand our cost structure in under a minute, while aligning the views of engineering and FinOps…

I've been lurking on HN for years. You know the drill: interesting headline, 200+ comments, you dive in thinking "I'll just skim for 5 minutes"... and an hour later you're 36 chambers deep in a thread about memory allocation patterns in Postgres and you've completely forgotten what the original article was about. I don't just want a "summary" (which usually just shortens the noise). I want the meta-consensus: "What is the actual trade-off being debated? Who is winning the argument? Why does this matter?" So I built HNSignals. Think of it less like a "summarizer" and more like a Chief of…

For years, I have struggled to understand my cash flow and save for the future. In addition to that, my wife has many credit cards and accounts that complicate matters. I am building a tool that connects all our accounts, helps us create a budget, and tracks and adjusts expenses on the fly. I am also sprinkling some AI magic on it for financial suggestions. I am looking for feedback on the implementation. More importantly, I am looking for more beta testers to improve the product.

How it works (tech stack): -Built entirely with Lovabl.dev (no-code front-end + logic) -ChatGPT / Claude for research and inspiration -Powered by GPT-4 Vision to interpret charts visually -Hosted on Supabase for performance & caching It’s not meant to replace analysts — just to speed up how traders interpret data. I’m a designer exploring AI tools, and this is my first attempt to turn an idea into a functional product. Would love to know what you think.

I've always found raw SEC filings painful to parse, so I built a site to make institutional holding data more accessible and visual. I recently updated the data to analyze the peter thiel stock portfolio (tracking Founders Fund and associated vehicles) for Q3 2025. It's interesting to see the divergence from standard tech indices—heavy on defense/hard tech and very little consumer SaaS. You can see the visualization here: https://www.13radar.com/guru/peter-thiel Would love any feedback on the UI or suggestions on other metrics I should calculate from the 13F data.

Hi all, Been a while since I've posted and in the time since I have created a trading journal website where you can submit and track your trades with the USP of tracking your outgoings too. There has been a huge rise in the number of retail traders (me included) and a lot of people now have the very real possibility of quitting their day jobs and trading full time. I want to help people do that! It's still in very early stages and I'm releasing new updates daily but would be very grateful to get some other peoples feedback! Thanks in advance and hope you're all having a good day! :D

There are a lot of APIs that provide access to these types of data, but there were not any (as far as we're aware of) tools & services that provide access to query the raw data directly for analytical purposes. We get the data across different sources and clean, schematize them in a PostgreSQL databases so folks can query/analyze the data directly. We have ~100 tables of data across stocks, ETFs, economic indicators, US/international census data and plan to keep adding more. More information on the tables are available at https://docs.wizdata.io Access to all of the data…

Hi HN, I've been working on 13radar.com, a site focused on tracking institutional holdings. Today, I’m releasing a beta version of our new Insider Trading Tracker. Like many of you, I've used OpenInsider for years. It's a legendary tool, but the UI hasn't changed in decades, and the data classification can be broad. I wanted to build something that feels modern and digs deeper into the data. How it differs from existing tools (OpenInsider / GuruFocus): Granularity: We parse SEC Form 4 filings to categorize transactions into finer types. Instead of just "Buy/Sell," we try to…

Built a free open source agentic CLI tool for financial modeling & analysis. Hadn't played around with real equity valuation modeling for awhile and wanted to build tooling to get myself back into the game. Bull.sh lets you query & store 10-Qs, 10-K in a local vector store to chat with them, build investment thesis from scratch or build full framework models through the CLI to export into excel. It's open source, just requires your own Anthropic API key and (optionally) AlphaVantage Free API key if you want save some tokens from scraping. Feel free to play around with it. Some ideas I have…

Hey any astrophysicist reading hn there? Was sick in august (yeah isn't that nice) and made a small python fits table viewer for the terminal with textual. It would be great to have people try it so if you find any issue I can improve it. If you have no FITS file but would like to try regardless there are some test file in `/test`. Ciao!
