Products that do what I made a website for searching police scanner transcripts does
Hey everyone, copcrawler.com is a website that lets you search through transcribed police scanner audio from broadcastify.com. I'm currently using faster-whisper with the tiny.en model to transcribe audio from about 14 departments on some old laptops. The transcript quality is relatively low however it's good enough to find common police scanner keywords like 'shots fired' or 'burglary'. I've also implemented RAG for a of couple departments which you can try out with the chat bot mode.

I originally added this to my site to speed up my video editing process. Last year I started a youtube channel and for some of my longer videos it's annoying to rely on youtube or capcut to transcribe when Whisper is open source. Capcut also recently updated their T&Cs to say they own your content if you use their app, so I cancelled my subscription. Another use-case I have is recording my claude prompts as audio, transcribing them, and then pasting them into my terminal. I mostly work on the CLI (claude, ffmpeg, whisper), but I wanted to make a browser version. Not reinventing the wheel…

Hello fellow hackers, we made a site that gets GPT to answer your question using the info on a webpage you specify or document you upload (e.g., a large textbook .pdf file). Background: When ChatGPT came out, I had the idea of having it pull answers from my stereo receiver's annoyingly dense 32 page manual. My weekend project prototype proceeded to surprise with great answers—just like what we've all experienced by now. My co-founder thought we should productize it, and make it easy to use online. Hey HN, I submitted PodcastSaver (https://podcastsaver.com) before but the reason it's interesting now is that I've started converting it into a live search engine test-bench.
