I always wondered how they do it how they display those cards on the screen, do they have somebody watching the cameras and entering all this data manually, is there a fancy image recognition AI model in the background? I made a thing! In 2014, I was holding a stack of iPhones and thought to myself: "Hey, if I had each phone display a playing card, I could click a button and they'd shuffle themselves" I pared that idea all the way down to this: trading cards made of e-ink displays. Every time I play a casual cash poker game with friends, we spend the first several minutes struggling to figure out chip denominations. I built this to automate that process. I've been building https://cardcast.gg, a web app for playing paper Magic: The Gathering remotely. You point a webcam at your play area and it identifies cards as you put them down. It's an alternative to Spelltable that I built for my friend group to play weekly with. The main technical difference is detection. Spelltable uses perceptual hashing; cardcast uses modern ViT backbones so it's much faster and more accurate.
