I've been traveling to lesser traveled countries for 10+ years and always tend to meet the kindest most genuine locals in the places that are not tourist hot spots by any means. Strangers crossing the road just to shake my hand and say "Welcome to Ethiopia", being invited over for Christmas eve celebrations in Colombia, or going to a traffic officer's home to meet his family in a village in the Philippines where he gifted me his son's local basketball jersey. Many years ago (2007?) I put together this site: http://www.tripzard.com . I never launched it, because it was basically a MVP/POC so it's not very refined, but I just found it again today and was surprised it still kind of works decent. The idea was kind of like "Find Your Spot" where you answer a bunch of questions about what you like to do when you travel, and it calculates where the best places for your to travel would be. This project started with me wanting to find a nice place to live with my partner. I'm a data scientist by day so I thought I'd approach it systematically. When I showed it to my friends, many said they wanted to try it too, so I made it into an app and put it online. I love culture + travel, and one of my favorite pastimes is dropping into random streets on Google Street View.
