I wanted to test mobile apps in plain English instead of relying on brittle selectors like XPath or accessibility IDs. With a vision-based agent, that part actually works well. It can look at the screen, understand intent, and perform actions across Android and iOS. The bigger problem showed up around how tests are defined and maintained. When test flows are kept outside the codebase (written manually or generated from PRDs), they quickly go out of sync with the app. Keeping them updated becomes a lot of effort, and they lose reliability over time. Justin and Avichal here. We’re building Linden (http://trylinden.com), a tool for maintaining browser automations at scale. Avichal lived this problem at a dental insurance startup, where he spent time fixing brittle Selenium scripts that broke on minor website updates. He was pulling data from dozens of legacy portals and the constant maintenance was a drain on engineering time. The new AI browser tools had their own issues. Agent runs often fail after expensive model calls and executing tools that have real-world side effects. This problem is made even worse by how common it is to deploy agents to serverless environments. When your agent dies, it needs to be restarted, but doing so safely isn't easy and everyone building agents has to solve this same problem of durability.
