OP here. I built this because I recently caught myself almost pasting a block of logs containing AWS keys into Claude. The Problem: I need the reasoning capabilities of cloud models (GPT/Claude/Gemini), but I can't trust myself not to accidentally leak PII or secrets. The Solution: A Chrome extension that acts as a local middleware. It intercepts the prompt and runs a local BERT model (via a Python FastAPI backend) to scrub names, emails, and keys before the request leaves the browser. A few notes up front (to set expectations clearly): Everything runs 100% locally. Regex detection…

Hey HN! We built a quick way to normalize CVs and resumes. Specifically, we built a simple 2-page app at https://cv.studio/ where you can choose a pdf, doc or docx file, and CV Studio will extract the relevant professional metadata out of it and give you a web-shareable URL of that CV. There are a couple other features (e.g. being able to add information that is missing in the CV) but we’re hoping this makes it easier for people to share CVs of applicants during the hiring process. We’d love any feedback or questions you might have.

Ported this in an evening because the policy finally kicked the bucket in my Chrome install. It works reasonably well and I haven't found any issues with stability or importing external rules yet.

Hey everyone, we built a local-first, open-source framework to allows you to export and build applications with your personal data. This August, we built a digital footprint exporter (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41325719) that allowed people to get back their personal data, but there was no way to interact with it. So we added a python package, improved the reliability of the exporting, and implemented a unified JSON structure across platforms. How it works: - Electron’s built-in webview element is used to navigate to the platform’s website and the user can connect…

Recently I'm working on CopyUI which is an extension to copy UI element from websites and export html(or jsx) and css(or tailwind). I'm building this tool in order to create better landing pages because I'm really not good at layout and colors. So I hope to learn from others' design and innovate later, not to simply replicate.

Are you tired of being spammed by recruiters, having your personal information sold to strangers, and being forced into yet another news feed? We are, and that's why we built Standard Resume. Standard Resume imports your LinkedIn profile in one click and creates a web and PDF resume for you. The web resume works as a replacement for your LinkedIn profile for things like HN Who's hiring, informal referrals, and linking to from your personal website or GitHub profile. Our resume templates are professionally designed, and are reviewed by tech hiring managers. We also have a few monospace…

Hey HN, Localias is a new tool that you can use to securely manage your local development servers. Use localias to securely proxy a local development server running on http://localhost:3000 and access it at https://frontend.test. Localias is built on top of Caddy, so it's secure and performant. And because it's built on top of Caddy, it will automatically generate and install a custom root certificate, and automatically generate and sign certificates for each of your aliases. This all works by editing your /etc/hosts file and generating a Caddy config, then…
