As a grad student (and an ADHDer), I had trouble doing literature review systematically. To combat this, I made a website that finds similar papers using the meaning of the thing I am looking for. I used MixedBread's [^1] embedding model to generate vectors from the abstracts. I store and search similar vectors using Milvus [^2] and finally use Gradio [^3] to serve the frontend. I update the vector database weekly by pulling the metadata dataset from Kaggle [^4]. To speed up the search process on my free oracle instance, I binarise the embeddings and use Hamming distance as a metric. I would…

Hi HN! My latest side project is knowledge graph that maps the French culinary network using data extracted from restaurant reviews from LeFooding.com. The project uses LLMs to extract structured information from unstructured text. Some technical aspects you may be interested in: - Used structured generation to reliably parse unstructured text into a consistent schema - Tested multiple models (Mistral-7B-v0.3, Llama3.2-3B, gpt4o-mini) for information extraction - Created an interactive visualization using gephi-lite and Retina (WebGL) - Built (with Claude) a simple Flask web app to clean and…

Hi! This is a visualization I've always wanted but never quite found. It's a navigable map of the Wikipedia link graph structure, with search and shortest-path finding. Offline, I parsed the May 2026 English Wikipedia full-text dump into a directed graph, used cuGraph on a GPU to run PageRank, Leiden clustering, and ForceAtlas2 for the layout. I did some post processing to get rid of lingering overlapping nodes and rendered a tiled map of raster base images (using Skia) and JSON metadata. Tiles are bundled into PMTiles. The frontend is Deck.gl. Everything is hosted on Cloudflare. Search and…

Rerun 0.21 comes with a new graph viewer that's written in Rust and runs in the browser via wasm. It's powered by a new force based layout engine that is a port of much of d3-force to Rust. (The release also contains some other cool stuff like undo/redo implemented on top of a timeseries DB.) We built this with applications in robotics and spatial computing in mind but would love to hear feedback from folks that would see this as useful in other domains as well.

Hey HN! Over the weekend (leaning heavily on Opus 4.5) I wrote Jargon - an AI-managed zettelkasten that reads articles, papers, and YouTube videos, extracts the key ideas, and automatically links related concepts together. Demo video: https://youtu.be/W7ejMqZ6EUQ Repo: https://github.com/schoblaska/jargon You can paste an article, PDF link, or YouTube video to parse, or ask questions directly and it'll find its own content. Sources get summarized, broken into insight cards, and embedded for semantic search. Similar ideas automatically cluster together. Each…

Hi HN, Nick here, founder at OpenKnowledge. We built an open source library, Visimer, for editing Mermaid diagrams with a what-you-see-is-what-you-get visual editor. Try the playground at https://visimer.com/playground. You can rename labels, change shapes, add new nodes, etc. by clicking and dragging the visual canvas. We set out to build this originally for OpenKnowledge, our markdown wysiwyg editor, then realized it’d be great to share it as a proper embeddable component library so that other apps can leverage it as well. Our general take is that AI is great for generating…
