jb is a UNIX tool that creates JSON, for shell scripts or interactive use. Its "one thing" is to get shell-native data (environment variables, files, program output) to somewhere else, using JSON encapsulate it robustly. I wrote this because I wanted a robust and ergonomic way to create ad-hoc JSON data from the command line and scripts. I wanted errors to not pass silently, not coerce data types, not put secrets into argv. Hi HN, My name is JR and I had a need for a simple analytics solution that allowed me to store (timestamp, json) logs and run SQL over them. It was hard to find the right solution. Solutions like Mixpanel and Amplitude optimized for particular report types. Whereas solutions like Snowflake, BigQuery, etc. required a lot of setup. I built GraphJSON to fit in the middle. Hey HN! I wanted to share a chrome extension I built for myself called From Chaos. It's an extension that takes the content of the page and organizes it into structured data. For instance, taking all the restaurants on a "top 10" article and just returning their names. It requires an OpenAI API key that you can set in your settings, and lets you get data back as JSON, YAML, CSV, or plain text. I built it to help in my data-gathering efforts, but wanted to share in case it's useful to someone else as well! It doesn't always return perfect data, but it does save me quite a bit of time.
