http://instantclick.io/ It seems the internet architecture won't bring us instant websites anytime soon. So here is a hack. I released this JS library last month (today is version 2.0 release, fixing v1.0's rough edges), it makes use of HTML5's pushState and preloading to make a website instant. It works like this: before clicking on a link, you'll hover over it. And there's a delay of 200-300 ms between these two events. InstantClick uses this delay to preload a page, when you click on a link it will display instantly in most case. (You can test on the website.) That's…

Today I fixed a couple little bugs and released a new version of my minimalist CSS framework. I built this to scratch my own itch and I've been using it for a few years as the starting point for most of my own websites. I noticed I hadn't shared this with HN for about 18 months (5 or 6 minor version changes) so I thought it might be okay to do that now. Edit: Err, I missed a post from 7 months ago. I wanted to have a framework that would let me build web apps faster than ever before. I didn’t care if it was a little hacky or didn’t use best practices — I wanted to be able to get a multi-user application out the door in hours instead of months. I researched the CMS space for months before deciding to build something from scratch. My goal was to be 90% done building a web app once I had the static HTML and CSS finished. I’m not a big fan of building out API endpoints over and over again for every new app, fiddling with a database, or doing lots of config. What I ended up with was a…

display.dev▲183Last week's post from Thariq "The Unreasonable Effectiveness of HTML" went viral in X. He made a good point about HTML being the more expressive and human friendly alternative to markdown files. I completely buy in where he's coming from, I've been asking Claude Code to create me HTML files to better understand what we're planning and building together. What Thariq didn't address was the part of sharing and collaborating on these HTML artifacts (he proposed uploading to S3). While I've been heavy user of HTML artifacts to share quarterly plans, implementation specs, technical guides and…

Hi HN! Korean high school senior here, about to start CS in college. I built a browser engine from scratch in C++ to understand how browsers work. First time using C++, 8 weeks of development, lots of debugging—but it works! Features: - HTML parsing with error correction - CSS cascade and inheritance - Block/inline layout engine - Async image loading + caching - Link navigation + history Hardest parts: - String parsing(html, css) - Rendering - Image Caching & Layout Reflowing What I learned (beyond code): - Systematic debugging is crucial - Ship with known bugs rather than chase…

just wanted to share this useful tool with you. I have been looking at something like this for a very long time. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/css-used/cdopjfddj... what it does: it analyses your html dom and looks for css classes. Then it extracts it all and combines it into 1 single css file. I used 5 css framworks which was on 340kb kb. This tool made it 36kb!

Hey, we’ve been working on an open-source project built on top of Comfy for the last few weeks. It is still very much a work in progress, but I think it is at a place where it could start to be useful. The idea is that you can turn a workflow into a web app with an easy-to-use UI. Currently, it should work with any workflows that take images and text as input and return images. We are aiming to add video support over the next few days. Feedback and contributions are more than welcome!

I built Morph, an experimental fullstack HTML-first library for Deno, Node, and Bun. Everything returns HTML, not JSON. No React, no Vite — just plain HTML with server-side rendering. No build steps, no preprocessors, no complex configs — everything runs from a single file. Perfect for Telegram Web Apps, internal tools, simple admin panels, dashboards, or anywhere a full-blown SPA feels like overkill. Important: I built this entirely for myself — to solve my own problems. I hate complex frontend. I hate writing it. And I don’t want to waste time on it. But maybe it’ll help you too.
